alright soooo the other day i got shown up by some other bike popped a wheelie and rode off...aaaand i felt like a POS. now i have successfully done first gear wheelies at around 10-20 mph by clutching in throttling up and dropping the clutch and the bike comes up quick! but the wheelies are super choppy, inconsistent and have only chased like 2 out. ive looked on youtube and heard about slipping the clutch? i dont know... anyways:

My question is, for my bike (firebolt xb9r) what tips do you have on A) getting the front end up smoothly and safely as possible and B) keeping her there.

i want to master the first gear wheelies before i move onto any 2nd gear wheelies but if you have tips about 2nd gear wheelies please do share those as well.
THANKS! and hope to be air born sooooon!

(btw yes i practice in a safe location with all the proper riding gear...thanks for asking haha)

Sorry not much help but have/can you wheelie other bikes? because if you are totally new to it i would learn the basics on another bike maybe a smaller dirt bike for example as you really dont want to be dumping your buell too many times thats for sure!

Not a beginner but...

well I've gotten it up many times so I'm use to the bike coming up and everything I'm just looking for new methods I guess? Easier and safer ways to get the front end up maybe a smoother liftoff because when i do a wheelie it's always in first gear and I reach balance point super quick almost too quick... If that all makes sense...? And I would like tips on trying a wheelie in 2nd gear... Never tried it. Is it the same?

firebolt "wheelie tips"? absolutely. find a top quality local mechanic and stock up on the following:
1-fork seals
2-front steering head bearing rebuild kits
3-front and rear muffler-to-mount clamps(total of 3)
4-front muffler bracket and attachment bolt.
5-horn bracket(and lots of 'em)

Not sure about a 9, but my 12 I just snap the throttle, no clutch anywhere after 3k in first gear and it comes up no problem. Second gear I have to use clutch, cruise at 4k, pull the clutch, rev it up, and dump the clutch. Third, I've got nothing...

IMO 2nd gear wheelies are easier because they come up slower.
Full gear on, wide, empty street with no curbs, no cross roads...
Cover the rear brake, un-cover the front brake, 2nd gear, 5K RPM, accelerate hard (maybe WOT), clutch in-out, and don't let off the throttle.
Receive ticket, argue with cop, ride away, get chased, fall off, wake up with handcuffs, girlfriend leaves you, go to jail, get a boyfriend, get out of jail but keep the Meth habit, live under a bridge, spoon with Clarance.

Oh and sorry Chicago but out here in Cali these are my hometown cops.... most of the time.... Plus i live way out in the sticks where no one cars as long as you dont hit their tractor...

The CHPs will always give you a ticket here. The sheriff depts don't really do trafic stops. You have to be doing some crazy **** for them to pull you over and they just call the CHPs to deal with you. I'm in the sticks and I ride further into the sticks to stay out of trouble if Buella is feeling frisky. The in town and city guys end up like Terrance. Ha
