Hey guys(and possibly girls), I'm new here, so far I've just been creeping about the forum building my knowledge on these bikes seeing if they were the bike for me and I've decided it is, so I've put down a deposit on an 05 XB9SX and will be picking it up on Saturday afternoon.

My Question is, with a full tank, what kind of mileage will i get until the fuel low light comes on, and how many more until I'm totally empty?

I will be riding at roughly 60-70mph the whole 300 mile long journey.

Thanks, i hope to become a valued member of the forum overtime, i was a mechanic for 2 years and now I'm and electronic engineer, i have a lot to offer.

I have a 2006 XB9SX here in Brazil. With our crap fuel, riding at this speed I usually get 230km (~140 miles) before the light comes on (with about 1 galon of fuel left in the tank).

I follow the forum since april, but joined just today. Since my english is poor, I spend my time reading more than writing :D

My 06 sx...Usually the light comes on at about 115 miles. The longest I've ever waited to refill was about 130mi. I have a factory race kit, don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I'll add, on trackdays, my range drops down to about 85 miles to the fuel light.

Ok, im guessing the race kit will run slightly richer to suit a free'er flowing exhaust, thanks.

Haha, good to know you're valuable!

I have a 2003 xb9s and I think my light comes on right around 138 miles. Never ran out of gas so I'm not sure how far I can get after that. When I picked my bike up I had a 5 hour ride home too. I just put on a pair of padded bicycle shorts on under my jeans and was good to go. TAKE SOME EARPLUGS!! I didn't even want to ride my bike for half a week after I got it home because I thought my head was going to explode from the noise of 80mph wind hitting my head for 5 hours. Wish I had thought to take the earplugs. They didn't even sell any at gas station rest stops, what's the deal with that??

I'm in the habit of just filling up every 100 miles anyway. If you're going to be riding that far you'll want to stop for stretching/food brakes anyway before you even start to feel sore, so just fill up whenever you pass a gas station instead of waiting for the light to come on.

Mine has only a jardine muffler. Stock ecm, air filter, etc... I'm just waiting my ecm cable arrives to load a race map.

I ran out of gas on my 2006 xb9sx, I went 32 mile after the light came on. I've only done it once and don't want to again. Hope this helps some.

Thanks guys, especially for the tip about the ear plugs :D

And skizzy, I've been there too, pushing a Yamaha DT almost 2 miles to a station in the middle of winter is NOT fun, as soon as that fuel light comes in i will be looking for a place to fill up.

Furthest I've ridden before in one continuous sitting is 100miles / 3 hours and that was very uncomfortable, I'm hoping this Buell has a softer seat.

I'm hoping this Buell has a softer seat.

Mine is a 9sl and the seat is rock hard. It's shaped well though so it's comfortable. Just make sure you don't plant your butt too long. Move it every couple minutes. Go from the front of the seat, to the back, off to a side. As long as you keep moving you'll be fine. The most important thing is to not wait until you feel sore. If you wait and then pull over to stretch you're done for. Keep moving from the moment to start riding it and every few miles stretch your legs/arms/back some while you're still riding.

As random as it sounds, eat a good breakfast and take something for lunch. All I ate that morning was a clif bar or something dumb, waited a few hours and got some french fries, and that was it until I got home. It was definitely poor planning and I suffered for it.

Rudi, I fond that with my XB12Ss, my mileage varies depending on fast I am cruising.
40MPH when I run 80-85MPH, and approaches 50MPG when I'm cruising 60-65MPH.
On an all highway trip varying 70 to 80 range the fuel light comes on between 135 and 140 miles.

I average 55 mpg on my 06 xb9 with a mix of city/highway driving. A few times I have seen as much as 75 mpg though. My gas light comes on normally at ~130 usually I try to fill up within 20 miles of it coming on just to be safe. Before I did my tune and added a lot of fuel I was averaging 60 mpg with city/highway driving.

I was getting on average, 132 miles on my 2006 XB9 before the fuel light came on. Now the fuel light circuit is faulty and my light is on all the time. So every 115 miles I fill up just in case.

For my long rides (100 miles +) I would sit on the passenger seat and just lean forward to get a different angle and stretch my legs and back.

I get around 120 miles per tankful. That's a combination of city and highway driving. As soon as the fuel light comes on, I start looking for a gas station.

Right here's the plan so far.

Set off at 7am
4 Hour train journey there
have some decent food
At roughly 2PM, set off with Ear plugs in
adjust my arse position from time to time
Stop every 50-70miles for a rest and petrol('gas', if your American :) )
By about 8PM i will be home, and i can proudly announce myself as part of the Buell gang!

I think I've got this journey nailed, worst comes to worst I'll stop at a hotel for the night.

Thanks.

I get around 130 miles on a tank (2009 XB9SX) before my fuel warning light comes on. Then I start looking for someplace to fill up... Don't feel like pushing the bike.
