ok so I did an S tail swap on my fire bolt and ordered a xblights tail light with the turn signals and plate light in it. I am wondering if anyone else has one of these that can post some pics of their install? they informed me I had to make a cut out for the plate light. I have already done a tail chop. I just wanted some ideas on the plate light cut out.

Look at the diesel moto tail and you can see about where the cut out needs to be, if your looking at your chopped tail you will see the section. I'll try to take a pic in the morning as my diesel tail is in my truck but I'm forgetful so I'll try my best!!!

Not sure if yu can see the square I cut in mine. I left the edge to keep the frame around the light.

ok that at least gives me a general idea of what I have to do. of course I did my tail chop and painted it before I decided on a integrated tail light. Fail.

You can also buy those screw lights on eBay for additional lightning if you didn't want to cut the tail up since you've already painted it. They are really cheap.

I was going to email you this, but its probably good for anyone else who might run into the same issue on the boards here.

There are a few options for license plate illumination.

In your case, you've already chopped the tail and painted it. Going back and re-cutting the small section for the light to shine down through would be a pain due to having to re-paint it.

One option would be the small LED license plate bolts. They arent very bright, but they light up the plate good enough to be legal to most officers.

(If you have a cycle gear close by, they had them on sale for $15)

Or you can go with a plate trim that has the LEDs built in...

Or a simple LED strip such as this..

Or I can put in the 10 LEDs into the tail light housing you've ordered.

(Please note, the LEDs I currently use for the license plate LEDs have a blue "tint" to them. The ones pictured are an old stock that has been discontinued)

Good luck! and if you'd like to change your order up, just let me know.
Thanks

rah7777777 thanks for the idea. i am going to go with your LED plate lights and cut my tail in the same fashion netty did. while it may be more work, it will be a much cleaner look and im sure much brighter. i dont need any more reason to get pulled over lol

Zeroflat, you'll like the outcome. Plus it'll be tucked away behind that lip so if the new paint offers any discrepancies from the old, it'll be tough to see. [up]

Another thing to think about is that XB light will be so bright, if your plate is angled right, it'll be lit up from the tail light.

[up]hell yeah. im glad i opted for the built in turn signals so i dont have to figure our a way to hook those up also!

While you can get some light on the plate from the red brake light, it wouldn't be considered legal. The white light hitting the plate is a safe bet.
