Is an 08 XT frame backwards compatible with a 07 XBS? I found one to replace mine with but it is an 08. I am just looking for a bit of peace of mind before i drop the coin.

How big of a headache would there be in converting??
Still a bit green on parts interchange on these critters.

Swingarm, rear shock, belt, tail section adapter brackets, oil lines and I'm sure their are other things. But I have never seen someone with the large frame go to the short swingarm. I'm sure it can be done but its going to be a lot of work.

I have a complete 07 with a salvage paper and was looking to do a frame swap, if im understanding you right i would need longer oil lines (swing-arm mounted further back), the tail mount brackets are different as well as the shock? thanks for your paience, i want to stop riding Skeerrred. lol

so the tail could be delt with, but the shock and oillines, controls would all have to come from a long frame. I don't think they have all of that available, so i guess i'll just keep looking for a short frame, or get lucky on the evil bay..
Thanks,

The oil lines are the same between the short and long frames. The important differences are in the shock mounting, brake line length and distance between the pivot and rear axle.

So If i strip my o7 S and rebuild it on the XT Frame the shock will be the biggest issue then the brake lines? I will be using the short swingarm/belt.

I have never seen it done but the long frames still have the standard shock mount location in the casting but it is not drilled or tapped. You may be able to machine the long frame to accept your S shock. Otherwise you would want to also change to the XT long swingarm, idler pulley, belt, brake line, and find an 06-07 or 06-08 SS shock. I can't remember what year the SS models came standard with the taller STT white spring rear shock but it was sometime after 2007.

A short swing arm cannot be used on a long frame. Shock mounts will be way to close together and the shock won't fit.

Short rails can be used on a long frame with a lil work

Oil lines may be a issue

Will need the longer belt

Thanks For All The Great Information Guys, I will see if they have enough of the parts to make it viable.
