ive wiped down alot of her to take all the dust and everything off, but the engine compartment just looks so dirty i was wondering if its ok to spray some water and soap in there to give it a nice clean.

or does someone have a better way to clean it all out. i just cant get a rag in there.

Start with S100 spray foam cleaner, follow directions on the can. Use a cyle dryer to get the water out after cleaning.

ok il try that out.

my primary case has a very dull black coating of some sort over it. are they all like this or do other ppl have nice cleaner ones??

I live in a extremely salty environment so to combat the corrosive effects of the salt I rinse my engine with each wash weekly. I do try to keep the spray off the electrical connections just to keep away from any extra problems... I use my leaf blower to get the excess water off the engine and once it's dry I use a spray called pig snot to somewhat protect the surface. I've also use engine brightner by s100, both sprays leave a decent shine on the engine and hoses.

I brake out the simple green, wd40, and an old tooth brush. Lately I've been covering it when it's in my basement too, otherwise it starts to get dusty(old house and 3 dogs running around to shake things up)

When you power wash it, any parts to avoid? I can't wash at my place so I want to take it to a car wash, but was a little hesitant.

do not powerwash your bike [down]
way too much pressure and your asking for problems...

bucket of hot soapy water (dawn dish soap, if its mild enough to wash animals after an oil spill its good enough for BamBam)
A toothbrush for those hard to reach areas and if you have a leaf blower have at 'er

Besides, there's nothing like a hand wash to show her a little love.. After washing, but before polishing, I take out my air compressor hose to blast the water off at a reasonable pressure (I don't have a leaf blower)..

ok i can do that. thanks again guys. il post some nice shinny pictures of her after

I've never once have heard someone say not to power wash their bike. First off it's completely fine to power wash your bike. Just don't be an idiot and get really close to your bike. My power washer has 6 different tips for lower and higher pressure. Never once have I had a problem. When I'm all done washing it I use a leaf blower to dry my bike off.

You can hose down everything... Your bike doesn't fall to shi# when you ride in the rain, so a hose and soap wont hurt it.

Well dont be a idiot when you power wash it of course and i tend to stay back around 3 feet at least until i get to the swingarm or tires. Make sure you dont have any chips in paint, dont press the power washer to anything, and just watch it. Power washing is perfectly fine if you arent a scared person or someone who is a idiot. Ive power washed every single bike i have owned. Yes ive learned from a few mistakes but now i know what to wash, how close, and what to avoid.
Then just take the great time of whipping everything down and drying it. :) Makes you feel good.
