My speedometer went blank the other day. No speed, no odometer. I want to check the sensor first but I'm not sure where the connections are on the speedo and the engine. Any input GREATLY appreciated.[confused]

The VSS should be to the right of, and slightly behind the starter.

According to the shop manual, there should be a white wire that travels from the sensor, through two connectors (one at the sensor and one at the instrument cluster), to the Speedo.

The pic is of my 1999 S3. The 1999/2000 X1 and S3 manuals agree, so I would guess that the 2000 M2 is the same.

Thanks Williegoat for the excellent picture & info. I pulled the sensor, it looked clean and debris free. I cleaned it anyway, re-installed & found that I still have a speedo that lights up when key is on, displays the final readings of the digital odometer & trip meter yet does not register any new readings. Am I correct in now assuming that I need a new sensor? If so are they still available thru HD?

Thanks AGAIN Williegoat for the input and the links. I hope to get this small problem squared away and then figure out how to post a couple of photos of my black, son-of-a-HD, sidewinder missle.
What an EXCELLENT SITE ! ! !
Thanx Again ! ! !
