Hi I am new to Buell's. This is my first one, previously owned Suzuki crotch rockets. I washed my bike the other day and drove it maybe 300 feet and the bike died. Upon further inspection I found that the ignition fuse was blown. I replaced it, let the bike dry out for a complete day (80+ degree heat) and it is still continuing to blow the ignition fuse. I pulled the two relay's that are with the fuses and found that when the top one is in and the key is turned on, it blows the ignition fuse every time. I do not have a wiring diagram to show where that relay goes or what runs into it. If anyone can help solve the problem or at least send me a wiring diagram for the bike or a link to the wiring diagram would be very helpful thank you.

A simple test you can do is to start the bike and turn the handlebars lock to lock if that blows the fuse its the problems in the harness up by the steering head. You can also wiggle the harness at various points but also feel behind the ignition switch and if its hot the switch is probably the issue.

Thanks for the advice. Since it keeps blowing the fuse I cant get it started at all. I did figure out the problem tho there are two diodes and the ignition diodes was bad. Finally found one at a local Chevy dealer.

Update on the progress:
Replaced the diode with a new one and it is still blowing the ignition fuse. If anyone has any insight onto what may be going on please let me know.

I know the x1 ignition switches are prone to failure and American Sport Bike sells a heavy duty replacement. I do not know if that would pop fuses or not but something to keep in mind.

If you need a wiring diagram I can snap a photo of my service manual for ya if you haven't found one.

Can you start unplugging some of the components that the ignition switch powers up?
This way you can narrow it down to what it is and what it isn't.
I had to do that on my XB when a wire on my fuel pump inside the tank was chaffed and was shorting the system out.
I had the same symptom, I turned the key on, everything was good, I hit the ignition switch and the fuse blew immediately..
Once you eliminate all the auxiliary systems, you'll know if it's the switch or in the main harness..
Good Luck..

I went through mby 15 fuses one day with my xb doing the same thing. A short in the blinker assembly, and also wired up a relay wrong. So fruatrating when u cant even key on to check stuff w.o blowing the fuse.

@ NwRider: If you wouldn't mind snapping a pic of the wiring diagram that would be very helpful. I have a pdf diagram but i can't read the words and letters that shows whats what.

Hope these help. The text is tiny and hard to photo.

Sorry I do not have a scanner. I could email them to you they may be easier to read than posted here. PM me with your email.

Thanks to everyone that helped out on this one. I got the bike running this evening after a lot of brain storming and eliminating. It turned out to be the neutral switch wire was grounding out and when I replaced it fired right up without blowing the fuse. Thanks again all.
