Does anyone have anything like this for long rides? I will be riding around 1500 miles later this year (Trip to see motogp, and EBR). I will only use it on highway, we are getting a scala rider set to communicate back amd forth but the problem is we both wear earplugs.

I used to ride with ear plugs as well, but have stopped wearing them after I got my Scala. I wished Scala would offer an earphone option rather than just a speaker option.

May be difficult to put on, but seems like a better solution.

Be careful riding with a full face helmet and no ear plugs is the cause of hearing loss.

I think I am going to try these and see how it goes.

Sena has an option for earbuds.
I found the etymotic er6i years ago and have used them ever since.

I love it. A buddy I ride with has one as well. They link up great. If you ride for awhile without talking, it'll hibernate but you just make a loud noise and they link up again.

It says they have a mile range, but I don't neccessarily believe that. They work plenty far, but a mile is stretching it unless you're in the city on flat ground.

As far as answering the phone, honestly this may bethebest feature on the device. You can talk on the phone and people literally can not tell you're riding.

I haven't used it for gps purposes, but I understnd it will tell you when to turn if you bluetooth it to the device.

I highly recommend it.

Here are some pics of it on the helmet so you can gain perspective of the size and profile. You don't notice it at all while riding.

Cool man.. I found a pair of them for 110 and im waiting for a reply email from the guy.. riding solo you can hook music up too right? Thank you for the review it always helps getting someone's personal perspective [up]

Yes you absolutely can hook it up to music. If you've got iPhone, I use an app called WunderRadio to stream local sports stations.

Oh9bolt That's my little buddy Cooper! He's a short haired pointer. I've got a boxer female as well. Good pups!

I have been using Scala Q2 for about 2 years and I am very happy with them. The bluetooth works well with my iphone, although I accept calls only when necessary. The best feature is the FM radio and I use it all the time. As far as using ear-plugs, I thought it was a joke until I tried them and discovered night and day difference. I only wish I had started using them earlier, for I do not know how much damage 30 years for riding have done.

I have tried several types of ear-plugs from the type sports shooters use to the more expensive filtered ones. The filtered ones supposedly block certain type of frequencies, but for me they just did not do the job. Eventually, I use the simple foam kind, that comes in yellow or orange that works the best and are comfortable, disposable, and inexpensive. With the ear-plugs, I only need to turn the Scala volume all the way up, and I have the best of both. All wind noise inside the helmet is gone, and I can hear the radio fine and can hear those occasional phone calls fine.

Scala has since improved their models. They have the G4 and G9 both better than the Q2, I have. I am sure they function much better than mine.

I wear Koss noise- isolating in ear headphones when I'm on long rides or want to listen to some pandora. I also use my Surefire ep3 range plugs which are excellent for noise cancelling while still being able to hear. The ep3 might be your best if using with scala rider system.

Do you have the chin curtain still in with the scala rider?

Yep i still have it. That boom wraps underneath perfectly before the chin curtain. Its long enough you can make it work, and there's still some left over. I actually bent the boom which turned the microphone up because it was projecting past the centerline. Beucase of the sensitivity of the microphone combined with the neccessary minimizing of road/wind/engine noise, you have to talk directly into the micrhpone for good sound.

Having said that, the helmet being a Bell, is still noisy and windy. But love the RSD graphics :D

Sorry for the direction this took! Back to the original post:D

I swear by Bose ear buds. They don't dig into your ears while your helmets on and stay in your ear while taking off an putting on your helmet

Squid bose are good headphones. I won a set at work and used to ride with them. Quality for sure!

Nice netty, I have a bell star also and love it. I will be getting the scala rider soon, I just watched a how to make earplug headphones and I think im going to try that first.

yep I love the helmet. Not the best for minimizing noise, but if I was so into that, I wouln't be riding a Buell.

I know this is about to sound ridiculous, but I feel like I have enough gear to worry about putting on and taking off, not having to deal with the damn headphones and the cord is fine by me.

I know I just opened myself up for left and right hooks, but that's really why I've stopped wearing them.

I agree with this kinda, I am not going to use the scala rider often I mainly want it for longer rides. I dont care to listen to music while I ride, or talk to people while im out riding.

I just feel this long trip im about to make it will be nice to listen to music, communicate with the other people that are riding, and answer the phone if the wife calls and needs to stop or whatever.
