loose clutch basket???

Hey all, have a 04 xb12 that just decided to start making a primary case rattle, checked the chain and shoe, all seems tight and very good shape (bike has 2400 miles on it). Oil was clean and recent, but what I have noticed is that I can wiggle the clutch assembly by hand, enough to make a "rattle". Checked the nut that holds it to the trans. all tight, checked the needle bearing in the clutch drum, like new....so I guess what I am asking, is the clutch assembly suppose to be a bit "wiggly", or maybe a shim washer behind the nut would fix it??? Also, with the primary chain removed, is there any reason why I can't start the engine to make sure its not the crank bearings producing the rattle noise??

pretty sure I have it figured, and I am not impressed to say the least. According to the service manual there is suppose to be a thrush washer between the clutch drum and trans. case bearing, there is not. I am the 2nd owner of this bike with very low miles, I know for a fact that this bike has never been apart, and that washer does not exist. Part " 30" on the pic, does not exist.

I think I have an extra one if needed but that is easy to overlook. it usually sticks to Trans main shaft so it appears not to be there.
 
If that washer is missing you will have some major rattling! You cant start the engine with the primary chain on because the starter turns the clutch basket and not the crank. The primary chain is the link between the starter and crankshaft.
