Been thinking of putting a XB based trackie together. Anyone have any experience using an XB12SS as a starting point? Was thinking that the longer wheelbase may assist in keep the front wheel on the deck, but this must be balanced against any loss of agility.

Any info from anyone with experience on track conversion XB's would be appreciated.

I am no expert, but the XB's should be on the street sounding and looking mean. Not sure they do so well on the track due to most tracks being designed for faster bikes that don't spend so much time on the straights... Probably better to spend the cash on a daytona or something.

Should mention that I'm thinking of the lower classes 'B.E.A.R.S.' racing so top speed will not be a huge issue.

A few guys run the "Ss" or ully frames with a xbr/s 43 mm frontend and a Penske rear shock for the comfort (tall riders) and more stability on higher speed tracks.

I know a guy that has a track ready XB for sale right this minute. He _just_ posted it. PM me if you want his number.

Just throwing this out there before I part it out. For sale or trade- 2005 XB9r (converted to a 12) track bike. Dean Adams pipe, chain conversion, 3 race weekends on the suspension (RaceTech springs front and rear, Ohlins front valve kit, RaceTech rear valve kit), ZTL2 front brakes, Woodcraft rear sets, adjustable levers, and several other tid-bits. Will be sold or traded with a white set of wheels. I have a rather large box of race spares to go with the bike- brake levers, clutch levers, gear shifters, brake pads, coil , ECU, sprockets, etc.

I am only selling/trading this to get an 1125 on the track. I would like to trade even for any XB (besides the Uly) for the street (open to other street bike trades as well). If that happens, I will build my street 1125 for the track. If I sell this bike, I will just purchase a wrecked 1125 to build and keep my other 1125 for the street.

I have an 04 xb12s with a longer swing arm 4inches longer. Not sure but I think that's like the Ss. It's 79inches long. Normal street bike length. And I'm trying to make it ready for the track.
I put the cr1125 bars with precision engineering risers, axle sliders and just ordered frame sliders from 5-0Dro should be here anyday now!! I also just put on WoodCraft rear sets. There sweet. I have a race box but ill be tuning my stock ECM in a little while. I need some bar end sliders and then just the full leathers and boots. I also have a chain conversion kit that came with the bike just like the extended swing arm, so I want to put that on. N I think ill be ready.
I want a separate set of wheels with race tires on them cause I ride this bike daily. But I can only push to the limits in a few places. Idk bout you but I can turn hard into corners fast. And really get my tires working. I've got Michelin pilot road 2. It's a good tire for tourqie bikes with the harder center and softer sides for the corners. Deff need race tires tho when I go to the rack. I can feel these lettin go sometimes when pushin real hard. Idk if any of this helps just letting you know that I'm one that also wants to hit the track on a v-twin!!!

If anything, the excessively short wheelbase and steep rake of the 'S' & 'R' models compromise agility at high speeds. The Ss chasis is better suited to the track, but as others have pointed out, the XB's motor is the real weakness on the track, especially straights!

Thanks for the feedback guys, I am in Australia so buying a complete trackie from the States may be a big ask. Seems like BEARS (British, European, American Racing Series) is a Oz and maybe UK thing. Bascally, I should be able to run against 848's, Triumph 675's and the like, so things may not be that bad down the straights. Also, apart from the 2 international circuits (Eastern Creek (Sydney) and Phillip Island (Melbourne) most tracks here are fairly short (my local is a 2 miler) and the others less than 3 miles.

I am currently running a Bandit 1250, (pic below) but that is really my roadie and she is a bit of a porker. I have been toying with the idea of a gixxer 750, but have always fancied a Buell and there is a XB1200SS with some minor damage available...

The Ss has a great chassis for track riding. You'll be able to pass a lot of bikes in the corners and a chain conversion could get you a little more top speed on the straights.

Between my buell and my Daytona, I'd pick the triumph for the track every time!!!! The buell is made for twisty back roads IMO
