Yesterday I thought I fouled my plugs so today I bought new ones and changed them. My bike is still not starting.

The battery is good I charged it and checked the voltage.all lights come on when key is in on position.

I was powder coating the left tail piece and had discontented the ground..had it connected though when I was trying to start the bike ..I thought maybe the paint made a bad ground but lights were still coming on. Switched the ground to other tail piece which I had not powder coated.still not starting.

I have fuel in the tank because i can hear it when I shake the bike.

I hear fuel pump prime when red ignition switch is flipped on.

So I'm confused and I need help please. When I hit the yellow start button bike sounds like it's turning over but just can't seem to start. I don't think it's the starter because I can hear it trying to start like I said. I feel like it's something silly I did. Also, I think it's either fuel related or injectors are not firing.. I don't have ecm spy.

Please help me with suggestions or ideas and thank you

Maybe check your coil wires and make sure they are connected to your new plugs firmly. Sometimes they are a pain to get back on correctly. You will feel when they are on, like a click. Good luck

stamen: do what lover and you either do not have spark or fuel, or both. did you remove your new front plug and see if it is saturated with fuel? if so, you have fuel and no spark. while it is out of cylinder, attach its lead, ground the plug and briefly spin motor over. do you now have spark?

Sand the part of your tail that attaches to the frame. This needs metal to metal contact. Make sure the ground is clean where the battery cable attaches too. Is that the only thing you changed that caused the no start?

Kona if I had a bad ground would my lights even come on? Or would the bike even try to start? And do you mean sand the through hole where the screw attaches the tail to the frame? I checked all connections and they were tight. Also does it matter which tail piece my battery is grounded on? It shouldn't right? Because I tried switching the ground to the other tail piece which I hadn't powder coated and still nothing. Also I did start the bike 2 or 3 times and only ran it for a few minutes (I know I know) besides that I was messing around and did like a half wheelie but nothing crazy besides that.

I still haven't tested for a spark, will do that tomorrow and keep updated. I don't think plugs were saturated with gas when I took them out but there was some black on the tip.

If you started it for a minute 2 or 3 times your plugs are probably fouled. I didn't believe this was possible until i did it showing off my new bike to friends when i got it several years ago. But you said you changed them so that shouldn't matter. Maybe plug wires like mentioned earlier. I have messed up mine before. Did you remember to plug in the iat sensor in airbox?

I guess if it cranks over well the ground is probably good. I was talking about the flat surface around the upper bolt hole of the seat rail on the back side that contacts the bare metal surface around the threaded hole in the frame. did you move all grounds to the other seat rail? I think i remember several ground wires that ground in the tail section. Can't hurt to double check all of them.

I've checked for continuity between the negative on the battery and many places on the bike and I seem to be getting good continuity except for the front head. Interesting enough I don't even get continuity when I probe the rear head and front head as well. Also, I am not getting a spark on either spark plug when check for a spark by grounding it to the cooling fins on the head. I check the wire harness which plugs into the ignition coil and I am seeing 12.4 Volts which is telling I am getting voltage to the ignition coil. How do I check if the coil is not working?

I forgot to add that yes I did move all grounds to the other seat rail and no change. Could the IAT sensor have something to do with this. I made sure it was connected and sprayed it with electrical cleaner.

To see if a coil has an internal short the FSM shows the ohm limits in the coil itself ... you just test it with a multimeter ... another thing ... have you tested the CPS to see if it's picking up impulses from the timing cup? ... just curious ... and it doesn't hurt to try and get your hands on a set of new plugs just as spares ...

Negative,

What is the FSM? Also, what is the CPS I am not familiar with these abbreviations/words and how do I test it? Is it written in the service manual?

Update... I believe I might have figured out the problem. Don't laugh , but I actually unscrewed the BAS ( Bank Angle Sensor) and zip tied it to on of the cables under the seat and in doing this I must have rotated it so that the ECM thinks the bike is laid down or something. I am not 100% certain but have a very good feeling this is why my bike is not providing any spark or fuel. I will check it later tonight when I get home from work and update. FYI I did not know what that thing was when I unscrewed it. But I hope someone can learn from this, if it is the culprit. [cool]
