Ok guys my bike wont start. Bike turns over fine and can hear the fuel pump running but it wont fire. I killed the battery from trying to get it to start and took it out and charged it then put it back in and it had no problems for about 3 days. Now it wont start again. I don't have any blown fuses. Any of you guys run into this problem before? I haven't had time to pull the plugs out but that's my next step. Just figured i would throw it out there and see if anybody has had this problem before. thanks

sure you hooked all the wires up on the battery?
Likely plugs are getting fouled.
check the air filter aswell

yes all the wires are hooked up right and the air filter is good as well. It was just really weird, i killed the batter from trying to start it and after i charged it i didn't have any problem for 3 days then just all of a sudden nothing. Wont even fire at all. Going to put some NGK plugs in it this weekend and see if that helps.

it may be your voltage regulator or stator... has your check engine light gone on? sounds to me like your bike isnt maintaining the charge on the battery.

my 04 12R is doing the same exact thing, but i beleive i have more electrical problems.... it randomly cuts one cylinder going down the road then will fire back up... and for some reason sometimes the speedo and tach will drop to 0 but the bike will keep right on going down the road... then the gauges come back bikes kills for a second lets out a huge back fire and then trucks right alone for quite a few miles before repeating the same thing... i got alot of wires to check lol

Open, clean, silicone grease & re-close bike's electrical connectors and battery terminals.

Alright guys just got back inside from messing with the bike. Im not getting any spark from the coil. Checked connections and fuses and didn't see anything wrong. Anybody had issues with coils frying?

Alright replaced the coil, plugs, and wires but still no dice. Checked the grounds, fuses, and relays all seems to be in order but still not getting spark. I know you guys are smart is there a sensor or something that i should be looking at? pulled the codes off it and the only thing i got was a 16 but think that was from when i killed the battery.

crank sensor or cam sensor most systems use crank for spark timing and cam for fuel timing.do you have tach operation if not i would lean towards crank sensor.

i just figuered my 04 out.. mine is the cam position sensor... the buells run the same sensor for crank/cam timing.. its the round cover on yours on the right side... the "timing cover"... you can get one pretty cheap...

to make sure thats whats wrong with yours get a test light, (hooks to ground and lights up when voltage is applied) then take off the plus on one of your injectors and put a peice of wire in the aligator clamp and push the peice of wire into one side of the plug anf put the probe of the test light on the other side of the plug and then turn the motor over with the starter... if the light flashes then you have injector pulses and your sensor is reading right... if you dont get a pulsing light then your injectors arnt firing and our sensor is bad...

need any more help just send me a msg or ill give you my # and you can call and ill get ya up and goin

the bank angle sensor "lean angle"will also stop bike from starting but if your sure you can hear the fuel pump then thats not it because it kills fuel pump and ign.crank sensor is located near the lower front left corner of engine crankcase.also check connector

just went out to the garage and turned it over and the tach doesn't move. looks like i am going to replace the cam position sensor next.

You can use the fuel pump switching to check the timing on an earlier XB so this might help you determine if the CPS is sending pulses to the ECM.

If you have the ignition on and bike in gear the fuel pump will run (and time out) when the CPS passes the timing point and sends a low to high transition to the ECM.

If you want to be really careful you would do this on the stand with the plugs disconnected but I just tried it on my Uly and in first gear I brought it almost to compression then turned the ignition on, let the pump prime and time out then pushed the bike forward slowly and the pump fired up again as it came up to the timing point (without starting and running away).

Anyway, it is a really quick and simple 'no go' indicator for the CPS triggering the ECM.
