Hey Guys,
I am brand you to this forum, you dudes are the shizzle!!!

So I am riding home the other day it was really hot over a 100 degrees stop/go traffic, I had been riding for about an hour. Long story shorter... I roll up to the light and the engine dies I fired it up no problem, but it acted like it was outa gas (I had filled up the day before). I had to to keep the revs up or it wants to die... I had a couple a more miles to go before home... This was scary cuz every time I pulled away from the light the front end was trying to come up. I had to ride it hard or it would die, if it died it started easily. Next day I replaced the plugs (with double platinum HDs) the old plugs weren't fouled, hard to know for sure but I think they were about the right color. I also changed the oil c Mobile 1 V Twin.

When I finally started it, it sounded real funny like it was only firing on 1 cylinder. Then every 5-10 seconds I heard the motor speed up for a couple a seconds then it repeated. When it speed up it sounded like its old self...Not sure what to do next.

The bike has about 17K miles. It has a KN air filter, and race muffler, not sure if has the Race kit or any other goodies. I am the original owner bought the bike from the local HD dealer in 2006. It was the demo bike and they put the pipe on...

Any ideas or suggestions??? Thanks in advance for your time.

Hello, Daniel.
Your bike's issue occurs only when engine is very hot: slow traffic & high air temperatures?
Have same bike & similar mods. In those conditions, I could easily "kill" its engine by rolling-on throttle from idle any faster than s-l-o-w-l-y.

I believe my bike's issues are: 1) it hates to be ridden in traffic, and 2) it's running too lean at & above idle, due to filter & pipe change.
Let's see what other say, I'm interested, too. ;)

@aptbidr--its been 4 yrs since he bought the bike, dont you think the fuel problem wouldve shown up sooner? I'm not calling you out, its just a question.

My 05 had a similar problem, and it was a bad coil, i had replaced my plugs and the coil wire had not been clicked onto the plug and the coil, and it shorted out once i replaced it, all was well.
Also the TPS reset is a good idea.
Check the idle speed, mine was set really low when i got it and it seems as though the idle speed adjuster can move after awhile decreasing idle, causing your bike to perform poorly.

Yeahbut, j'man, mine's been doin' it (in those conditions) more than two years. : )
+1 idle speed: above 1000 rpm.

@aptbidr: hmmm guess i always ride in the same sort of weather and dont sit in traffic too much since i never noticed it. Guess i'll have to watch out for it.

Kudos Guys, Thanks so much for the help.

Here's a lil more info... I've ridden under similar conditions never a problem before.
1. The bike was running great up until the problem started.
2. Plug wires are original I had some trouble getting the back wire off so I'll replace these.
3. Bike has never had a TPS reset (could you clarify what this is, is it possible for me to test this or
better to take to dealer)?

So I will look into doing the TPS reset. Just let me know how to approach this.

Thanks again your awesome.

You'll need an ECMSpy cable you can buy off of Ebay or Xoptiinside.com ($50+).
You can download the program off here, Click Me, and the latest manual off of ECMSpy.com.
Read up on it and below is a DIY video of the procedure.
