03 xb9s crank bearings on the way out. I have access to an 07' engine but need to swap my heads onto it and my starter. Will these pieces fit? Also will my original ECM work? Would you have the original engine rebuilt (at what cost?) or swap it out for another like the one i can get? thanks!:p

no clue chris, relatively new rider here.. how many miles on your 03? just curious about the future of mine, i ride the **** out of my bike.

I would think they would fit. I know of little that has changed but for the updating of the Fuel injection & oil pump gears.

You're '03 ECM won't work as-is. The '07 motor will be using a different fuel injection system as well as an updated airbox setup. Good thing is though, the ECM can be remapped, which you would want to do anyway.

My xb has 53000kms on it and i rode it kinda hard. Spoke to dealership today and they said it is uncommon for these engines and they are pretty hard to kill. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
Dealership thinks it may be a couple of grand to rebuilt entire engine which sounds like the better way to go. You never know what you'll get with a used one.
How do I go about updating my stock ecm? Could i be doing damage with a race kit muffler and airfilter, but stock ecm?

You're '03 stock ecm can be easily remapped with ECMSpy by Xoptiinside.com or Americansportbike.com, to match whatever combo of intake/exhuast mods you can do.

Can i put my original injection parts and stuff but just change the mechanical engine as a long block assembly?

My crank blew out a thrust washer at 20007, currently in the process of tearing it apart.

The ECM from the 03 will work with the 07 engine as long as you move the headers from your 03 to the 07 (assuming both are XB9 blocks, that should be bolt-on; the xb12 has a larger diameter)

The starter and all that junk will work fine, and yea if you use the same intake bits (airbox and such) from your 03 and just swap the engine block and such itself over you should be fine to fire it up and go. I would move over the injection system as well just to make sure, but I don't recall that it changed.

A lot of people were very surprised when we cut my filter open to find so much copper and iron inside, the old sportser platform (05 and newer I believe) has a really good bearing set that usually lives a long happy life

Thanks so much for your input! This is the info I was looking for. Any thoughts on my bike using the race muffler and airfilter but stock ECM? Could this potentially harm anything?

If you have any questions on cars I'll be happy to help!
