My bike: 2009 XB12R. I have a Drummer SS pipe. all other mods only cosmetic.
I installed my SS pipe this winter (I'm in Buffalo, NY) , I have ridden my bike 400 miles since with no problems. Bike is super snappy and sounds good. I did do the throttle "relearn" procedure as outlined for a 09 bolt (self relearn). These 400 miles have been between 35-45 degrees out with a few days of 75 degrees out. Bike sat 2 weeks as its been cold/wet again. went out today 75 degrees out, bike had slow crank but started, also noticed clock and trip ode reset. rode bike 15 miles down town, while sitting at a light bike started to idle like crap. parked the bike and looked it over. nothing looks wrong. let sit 20 mins while i did some business. started to cruise around buffalo and it started to run poorly after 15 mins (I'm thinking heat issue, but the cooling fan is not on while running just on after shut off for typical amount of time). Rode home (felt like on 1 cylinder). fuel was low so i filled with fresh 93 and a splash of octane booster. symptoms got better for a quick ride but just ran to the store and there all back..... ignition, battery, fuel delivery, exhaust... no idea where to start. any ideas?

Think I would say battery. Or thats what I've seen to have read people say alot and it turns out to be their batter. Could also be a connection. I had a loose terminal and slow cranking and it reset the trip meters, but now all is good on mine after checking the connections.

^[up] all the different temp changes drastically can kill a battery. Did you have it on a n tender. I would have it checked out and ask for the results of the test. You will be looking specifically for the cold cranking amps if the voltage is acceptable.[cool]

im gonna pull the battery tonight and take it to work in the morning for a battery test. i just think if the battery was bad it wouldn't take so long to die, i would lean towards a charging problem... but wouldn't the CEL come on?

Clock reset tells you power went out. If the clock reset on that slow crank, yep, dying battery. Just enough charge for one start, not enough riding to keep charging.

I'd suggest that a longer ride at higher speeds could solve the issue for now but you're going to need a new battery soon.

bikes fixed. battery was fine. found the front plug was completely fouled out. turns out i was 2,000 past due on changing the plugs... 4hours and $15 in parts and she's happy again. just hope it doesn't foul again, might need to order the EBR programmed ecm. thanks for the help.
