Do I absolutly have to remove the muffler to remove the sidestand ?
Is it posible that my sidestand is loose, but in the part bolting to the frame ? My sidestand moves sideways, but it seems to me that it's loose in that part of the sidestand .... Anyone ?

You dont need to take off the muffler to replace the sidestand, the mount is a different story.

Your mount just needs to be tightened.

I meant taking off the whole assembly .... so I HAVE to remove the muffler ?
And for the moving part of my story, if I take the end that goes on the floor of the sidestand and i move it sideways, looks like the pin is loose in the mount.Possible ? Would the upgraded pin resolve my problem ? Do I have to drill out the mount too when I do the upgrade or just the sidestand?

only the sidestand needs to be drilled. the mount will not be affected. i chose to remove the entire assembly to make it easier on myself, but thinking about it now it might be easier to deal with the spring if the mount is still attached to the bike. i say go for it. the upgraded pin may or may not solve your problem depending on what is worn and causing the movement.

I'll remove it, and if the mount is worn, I'll just weld the hole and drill back to 1/2" ...

^good call updating this for the 2003's. It seems like the issue is the S curve part doesn't fit with the new pin, just in case anyone in the future wonders about why it won't work...

On my old XB9R the threaded part on my pin broke off. I drilled and tapped a hole to put a 5/16" SS bolt through the bottom.

I would replace with a grade 8 bolt. SS is not a strong material.

How common is this? Was there actually a recall on a faulty part? The guy I bought my bike from mentioned that he found is sagging one morning and replaced the pin so I'm just wondering if I need to worry about it still...

My pin had backed out, when I bought the bike I had no idea, but I just happened to look it over and see it and it was only hanging on by a couple threads. I suspect this might be why they often break. I threaded it back in then a few thousand miles later it was coming out again. I recently did this upgrade and it is much better.

i just bought the bike, but my stand hits my foot when shifting. it feels kind of loose and the bike has a little more lean than it looks like it should. is this the possible reason? 07xb12 7k

I recently picked up an '06 XB12 and just read about the kickstand recall. Anyone know if Harley will still replace these under the recall?

I don't think harley is honoring any of the recalls anymore. They are all basically expired.

Do this mod, it's very cheap and easy.

Thanks for the reply! Looks like I'll attempt this myself then. First step is to get a stand....time to research motorcycle stands...

Don't make the mistake I did. When I drilled the hole out I thought faster drill rpm must be better. WRONG. lol. I later found out that you should drill at a slower rpm through steel. I just dulled my bit then it was worthless. I have since drilled steel properly and at the correct rpm it's like drilling butter(well, almost... :) )

My sagging stand is due to play in this upgrade. My bike is an 07, did it come with this new style pin or did someone fix it improperly? They stand moves around a little bit but there is no crack or stress mark. I think it was just drilled too wide.

they all seem to have quite a bit of play from what ive seen. You dont drill the bracket at all only the sidestand leg. This upgrade only changes the pin. Which has the same shaft diameter as the old one. I guess if they screwed up the hole in the leg it would be pretty bad though.

07+ should have the newer design from the factory though,

Just did this upgrade on my 05 xb9sx, and yeah, the "s" shaped part isn't right, it sticks out halfway while I'm the up position, can I just look for an 07 or newer "s" part?

I realize this is a very late reply but it should be fine for 05's. Only the 03 will have issues with that piece.
