1125 speed wobbles and other questions

I just purchased my new 2009 1125cr, it has 14,500k miles on it, new tires at 10k miles, it has the jardine carbon fiber exhaust, power commander and k&n filter. Still has a warranty on it. Paid $4,200 for it.

One of my questions is, when I'm on the highway around 120mph I start to get speed wobbles, I can go faster but then it will just get more intense. The bike is suppose to do 170 but who would dare go that fast without fearing of their life tumbling down the road. I read that you can purchase a steering stabilizer for them, but are quite expensive. Are they worth it??? Thanks

First idea, don't do 120 on public roads. With that said, speed wobble may be due to tire imbalance or simply having a crappy tire.

Factor the above in with a relatively short wheelbase bike with little trail, it will be somewhat unstable at high speeds as you have experienced.

You can save the cost of the damper by simply riding at more reasonable speeds.

If you want to ride more aggressively, especially in a track environment, get a damper. It made a world of difference on my CR. However, if you think a damper is expensive, just remember that fines/impound costs will be even more.

Thanks dad, I'll keep that in mind [up]

I've had the bike for less than a week, I was on a highway alone and I wanted to see what she had in her. THE BIKE WHEELIES SO EASY!!!! Love it

What kind of tires are you running?
Are they properly balanced?
Did you check your tire preasure?
You may want to check your suspension settings. If the bike is new to you it might not be set up for your weight and riding style.
I ran shinkos on my xb ONCE. I'll never run them again. Dispite the fact that they were professionally balanced, they were a very unstable tire!
If you don't check your tire preasure often you can get uneven tire wear or cupping. This can lead to instability on any bike!
Fleabay sells some fairly cheap steering dampeners that I'm sure you can custom fit.
If you're gonna be blazing around at straight line squid speeds you need to really consider the fact that a few hundred dollars in safety equipment is a drop in the bucket when considering the fact that your life is on the line.
I'm not trying to preach. I too like to show my ass every once in a while but I always wear full gear. And I know my bike is set up and maintained properly. I just believe that when it comes to safety you shouldn't be cheap. Regardless of what speed your traveling or how many wheels your traveling on.

And just out of curiosity how is it still under warranty and it's six years old? I had to go back and make sure this wasn't a ancient thread brought back to life!

Mine had wobbles when I first got it. Bent fork, bent steering stem and other issues from previous owner "gently" dropping it at "low" speed. After sorting those issues out I have zero speed wobbles right through to Rev limit in 6th. Gpr is set to 0. Make sure everything is in order and working properly and you should have little to no head shake. Also balance the front tire with wheel weights only on the rotor / right side.

Lol that was a typo, they are Pierlli's, are these tires any good? The person I purchased the bike from got it from HD with an extended warranty. So I'm covered until September, I can even purchase another extended warranty on it. How often does the clutch weeping happen too? It's leaking out of the clutch head cover and he said he's already gotten it replaced once at maybe 12,000 miles. He said HD had to go through 3 clutch gaskets before they finally got it to stop leaking.

I will also mention the speed wobbles to see if they can check it out since its under warranty still.

Hey guys, got another question. I notice when I'm riding and when I come to a stop light the battery light comes on, I've seen it drop down to 11.7v's before. Just wondering if this is normal

I have a CR and I get really bad stability issues above 80 sometimes lower if it's windy. I've redlined it in 6 at the track and maxed out at only 135ish because I'm a giant. I've adjusted my suspension professionally at the track and can guarantee I'm not putting any input into my handlebars it's just a very short wheel base with a none aero dynamic design and I'm 6'5 so I catch wind easily. For reference I've taken my ZX-14R up to 186 mph and felt solid as a rock and my ZX-10R up to 170 same thing. This was on a race track.

My 1125CR is currently out of commission with a clutch weep. I have the new EBR replacement part but have been too lazy to install it. I couldn't find any shops that would do it. But once I attmept to fix that myself I am going to try a steering dampener once I can stomach $500 on a part for a bike that probably isn't worth 4k. If that doesn't work I think it needs a new suspension which will cost about $700 to respring the forks and $600+ for a good shock.

Your voltage is dropping because of an electrical issue with the bike. You need to do the Strator upgrade, now that EBR is gone that might be difficult. My best advice would be don't let the bike sit still while running. Best of luck!

Pirelli tires are good the angels are a sport touring tire, and you shouldn't be getting wabble from the tire unless it's trashed but you would see awkward wear.
