Hi all. I've owned a 2006 Firebolt since May and I love the bike. I've had no hassles or problems and I enjoy it a lot.. I like everything about it. Even the way it cooks my leg and makes my back hurt after a long ride. Buell forever!

But now I have a line on a 2008 1125r that is almost new and was thinking about trading in the Firebolt for it. Why trade something I am happy with for something unknown? I guess I am interested in the extra horses and as well I'd be trading up to a much newer bike (with a lot less clicks on it). I wondered too if it runs cooler because of the water cooling.

Is the 1125r reliable? I had read a few places that there were a bunch of glitchy things that can go wrong?

Anything I should know? Will I like the 1125r better? Any other advantages besides the extra horses?

It will be hot in traffic. Get a race ecm to smooth it out and cool it some (more fuel, cooler running) and possibly an exhaust if you want even more (140+ hp) power available at the wheel. Only a few systems will break 140 hp though., so do your research before buying the cheapest one out there.

There are a few other small problems, but nothing I'd call earth shaking. Clutch weep, IC battery drain, burns up tires pretty fast.
 
I called the one I was selling "the right boot bbq!" It would be so hot after only a mile of riding I thought I was on fire. Other than that it's one hell of a fast ride.
 
As mentioned above, think "superbike" in terms of power and handling. I rode an '09 CR and loved it, but in a different way than my XB. If I had to live with just one, it would be the XB. But I WILL own an 1125...
 
I agree as we'll, I went from an 03 firebolt to an 09 1125cr and put over 16,000 miles on it. I love the bike even with the electrical quirks. If I could change one thing about it I would have purchased an 08 1125r and converted it to a cr to avoid the electrical gremlins that the 09-10 1125s have. But I currently have 15,000 on this stator and can't complain, tho if you do go for an 09-10 get the ebr rotor.
 
I was super scared going from my xb to the cr for all the known reasons. Did get one cr with a tranny problem but sold it before i had to mess with it. The next CR i have had 11k on it and the battery is shot. I have 15k on it now with the same shot battery cause my stator IS charging it!

Ive heard that if you have more then 10k then you are more then likely in the clear of stator problems. I even ran mine at the track.

Bad things compared to the xbs:
Maintenance is way more of a bitch, you got to get the valves adjusted (need to do for mine) every 12k, if you want to change the spark plugs you have to DROP the engine out. Sure, just do the plugs with the valve adjustment. But that is still way more work then the xb

Heat isnt as bad but like people say you will have a toasty right foot. I cant figure out why either.

The twin sound is faster then the xb with the 72* compared to the 45*. Sounds amazing and can be LOUDER but the harley sound is gone. Which i like but also kinda miss.
MPG! I get 30 for avg on the CR Use to get 45-55 avg for the xb!
Cost of insurance
ease of making it more of your own by mods, more available for the xbs.

Looks? Depends on the mood. I want to try to put a xb front on my CR and see how that looks.

Clutch weep will be a problem with all of them but that is a 100$ fix and no more then 5 hours of work. I have video clips to make a how to for it but it is kinda hard to do much on the computer with a gimp arm ATM.


All in all being in your spot before and going to the 1125s, at first i was scared and was thinking of going back, but now i just wait till i can afford to have an xb for her stable mate.
 
I gotta disagree on that one, my 1125 is by far the better ride, at least for me.

Really? Just for driving to and from work, maybe 5 to 20 miles? Maybe it was the 1125 I had but my XB seemed way more easy going for everyday work stuff.
 
5:30 am traffic, I want something that can move me in a hurry, the 1125 has more get up and go than the xb by a LONG shot. It doesn't sound nearly as busy at the same speed, the xb sounds like it's almost wound out at 75 mph, the 1125 is loafing along and turning over the same rpm at that point. Rolling the throttle on the 1125 produces a much better response, even in 6th gear. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good 1125, I dunno.
 
Just get the 1125 on top of the XB. I daily drive my XB to school and ride my CR for group rides with friends and everywhere else. The XB is a great commuter with the better fuel economy and it seems a lot easier to throw around but I can never pass up the raw power the 1125 has. It feels like I got on something with steriods after riding my XB for a few days.

Wow. Anyhow I'm going to go take it out for a test drive Sunday. They would not let me drive the XB until I had paid for it last May (with promise to refund if I did not like it) but I guess the fact that I am still alive has got them thinking that I may not be totally crazed and they are going to let me take it out for a spin. So we'll see if the magic happens.

have owned both. Although I miss my sTT at times (because I liked to blast dirt roads and gas lines haha) I would not go back to it after owning a couple 1125's. You're looking at an 08' and thats a plus if you are worried about the stator/electrical issues. I've owned two 08' 1125's and have had 20,000+ worry free miles with both of them (combined) My first suffered clutch weep, But my new one has been updated and has not leaked.

It took quite a while for the 1125 appearance to grow on me. They're sorrta like that girl at the party that you think you might wanna take home but you're not completely sure...Then you get a little of that poison in ya; take her home, test ride her, and wanna punch yourself in the sack for not doing it sooner.

The xb is an awesome all around bike, but if you're looking for the extra ponies then the 1125 may be a good move for you (at the right price of course) Also, the 1125 is a much more track capable bike which is a plus for me.

So I did it. Traded the Firebolt for the 1125r. It's basically new with 1400 KM on it. I get it next week. Went and did a test drive this morning and I really liked i, fell in love actually. It has a light nimble feeling very different from my XB. Miss the harley rumble but I like that rotax a lot.. lots of smooth power. I'm pretty excited.. though season is almost over. Only a few more weeks of riding here in Montreal. So we'll see how it goes. Thanks for your help, comments and advice everyone. Really appreciate the crowd here. Going to miss that XB though.. that bike has soo much personality.
 
Welcome to the even more exclusive group of 1125 riders! Get an ebr ECM and if the exhaust isn't enough for you either the ebr race exhaust or one of dean's pipes will do wonders. It also give the rotax a nice rawr that only gets better as the rpms climb!
