200 Rear Tire?

Buellxb Forum

Really 1400+ posts, and you havent come across this? Yes, we can fit a 200 rear tire. And at those widths doesnt matter what brand you use, traction and cornering characterstics are void. The tire becomes too big to produce good handling.

On a firebolt u can run a 200/50 r17. any higher ratio an the tire rubs on the swingarm. 200/50 r17 is; 200mm wide, 50% of 200mm high (from bead to top of tire), 17" rim. 200/55 r17 will rub the swingarm on a firebolt.

Technically that information is incorrect. I ran a 200/55r17 Dunlop D205 tire with a standard swingarm. It did clear the swingarm with a bit of room to spare. If you are using plastic guards maybe those will rub.

One thing to note though. That tire which I am still running looks to be the same width as a 190/50R17.

OK Really we have 1400 post and you can see there is still conflicting information so that is why i am posting this again. Really? So rather then being a dushbag post something new or factual.

Can you fit a 200 on a firebolt with out all the plastic bull shit?

Im not asking if this will change my performance a tiny bit im not asking your opinions i'm asking for a simple fact! This is not a bike i take to the race track, this is my bike i get my pimp on. We are all different here. So please respect that.

A better question is does anyone have a 200 on their Firebolt with a stock stock swing-arm with out the plastic bullshit?

My bike was a Firebolt that was converted to a Lightning. To answer your question, YES, a 200 rear tire will fit on both the Firebolt and Lightning without the plastic guards.

its not incorrect. the 200/55 r 17 I installed on my stock firebolt had a groove rubbed down the center of the tire all the way around. it rubbed on the welded bead of my swingarm. without the bead sticking out, it might not of rubbed. but ur talking .001" clearance. some tires u might be able to run a 200/55 r17 without issues, but I would just go with a 200/50 r17.

Tires are like shoes; their actual sizes vary by brand, regardless of the size stated on the sidewall...

True! I guess i will feel a little safer though going with a 200/50 R17 Just in case!

All this info was very helpful for making my decision. I want to thank all of you for your help.

I don't have any handling issues.
I didnt say it would cause issues, i said

A 180 or 190 are better choices because they allow for quicker turn in. But doesnt matter the OP already stated he just wants it for looks.
