I am thinking of picking up a 2004 XB12R with about 2200 miles on it. It's been a bit neglected, but starts up and runs. It's got a Jardin pipe on it, that was supposedly installed by Harley Davidson when the current owner bought it brand new. I don't know if it has a tuned ECU to go with the pipe, but I assume not.

On the cold start when I saw it this week, it needed the throttle held for about a minute before it would idle on its own.

Is it worth about $3k? If so, I'll probably be bringing it home tomorrow night.

Thanks,
-Matt

+1

The idle issue could be really (and cheap) to fix. I doubt it's anything serious. If you don't want it, I'd take it for 3k!

Is it fairly common for HD to install an aftermarket exhaust on a brand new bike, and sell it that way? It's a one owner bike, just really needs some clean-up. The guy hasn't title it in 3-years, so he's only driven it in the neighborhood these last few years to run fresh gas through it.

Sounds like he's winterized it properly each year, and was kept in a shed (not garage) it's whole life.

Thanks!

I'm sure it is common for HD, especially if they could charge more for the bike or get some kind of kick back from jardine. It would have been a request by the buyer though.

Only twister is you can pickup up a really clean bike for maybe a $500 more.

Of all the pipes, the Jardine is the cheapest and least horsepower. $279 new on ebay.

for 3k id pick it up in a heartbeat! I got my 05 xb9r with 9k on it for 3100, blue book was 3800, you found a steal!

just take it for 3k, you can do nothing wrong.
change the fuel with good stuff, and change all the oils. follow my lead, i did get my bully2 delivered this sunday, and did some nice wheele rides today.

Good deal for $3k. Buy it, change fuel(easy), change oils(easy), change plugs(easy), get ecmspy, do a throttle position reset(easy), and it'll run nice.

Nice find jump on it!! I got my 2004 with 10,400 miles for $3,800 in July. Based on the condition and the history of my bike I think I got a good deal. Loved it from the first mile. There was another '04 black and gold 12R in my area a few weeks ago for $2500 wish I could have jumped on that one for the wife she misses riding.

Hey all, The deal on the XB12R fell through. The seller wouldn't give me the VIN number on the bike, so I decided to pass on it. Obviously a lot of speculation, but I have a feeling the miles were not accurate, or something was done to the bike. No reason for him not to give me the VIN number.

Anyways, I found one, much cleaner, and essentially in perfect condition. It's a 2005 XB9R with 3600 miles on it and had been garaged its whole life. Was a one-owner bike and was Harley-Davidson maintained. I have only driven it a few times around the block and such, since I don't have it titled and licensed in my name yet. It's completely stock. I'm unfortunately out on business this week, so I won't be able to title it until the week of Thanksgiving. Can't wait to take it out, if the weather cooperates that week!

Thanks all for the advice!

Nice bike (identical to mine lol). Although yours is cleaner :)

Have fun riding it over thanksgiving, I'll be on mine as well!

Thanks, I'm definitely excited.

The only think I'm a little disappointed with this bike is the tires, it seems they might need replacing, which I was hoping not to have to do right away. How long have the rest of you gone on the factory tires? I will likely need new tires for spring riding.

What tires do most go with? I also see several going with the 200 rear tire, rather than the stock 180. Any real benefit in doing this, other than looks? Is there a tire place online like tire rack, that specializes in bike tires?

Thanks!
-Matt

I haven't found a tire I can put more than 3000 miles on. Going to try angels next.

That makes me feel much better. Is that pretty much the average for tire wear? Any tire that has been better than another?
