I am really ashamed but I haven't been riding my 2008 XB9XS. I let the inspection expire. I took it yesterday. I've owned it 1-2 years, and it has only 2,2024 miles. I keep it on the charger. It did start right up & still run great. Funny thing, the inspection guy said I had to remove the stock bars from over the headlight, that that is illegal in Virginia, but just put it back on.

Anyway, not sure what former owner did, I think it had about 1700-1800 when I got it! I know I need to change the oil & filter immediately. (My husband does my work, I just have to ask/beg him[smirk]) I do have a service manual. But, what would you recommend from experience that I definitely ask him to do.

I also have a 2011 CBR250R I ride a lot because it is lighter to push around & actually fun because you have to really ride it, not be lazy (i.e. downshift a lot for curves, etc.) I couldn't believe how much faster the Buell is when I switched to that. At first, I was like OMG this is too much for me. But that quickly turned into a smile.

I do promise to run my Buell more, though!!! I promise.

oops, rushing to get to work, I mean to say 2024 miles in the body, as in the header.

not a lot of riding but not horrible. Some people here in MN only put 5-600 miles a year on theirs.

I average about 3k a year on my bike here in MI. Just junk for weather. Plus I live so close to work riding the Buell isn't worth it (.6mi one way).

When I brought my bike over from AZ a few years ago it had 4500 miles on it, now 2 years later 16,800.

I bought my bike with 7 miles on it, form the dealer, in May of '08.

Went down at 1100 miles in August, got it fixed by end of September.

Put another 200 on it, then winter hit, and I left for Ft. Knox. Came home in May for 2 weeks, put another 150 miles on it, then left for Hawaii. Bike got shipped in August, got here in October while I was in India. Got home, got it delivered, put about 30 miles on it while I tried to get it street legal. (Which I didn't)

Went back into storage for NTC/Iraq, and in July I picked it up, did services and made it street legal. Now i'm at around 2100 miles or so and riding it daily.

It happens, as long as you feel bad keeping it sitting then it's alright.

You can find a lot of Buells for sale that have been ridden about 1000 miles per. I know you're not selling it, but for comparison purposes, low miles is normal.

Thrstrmech has the most I've heard. I thought I had a lot of miles with 20k per year, but 20k in 6 months? That's incredible. Which Buell do you have?

Thanks, everybody! Glad I am not the only low miles fool.

Will look at manual when I get home from work, but I was really asking (other than the oil change), is there any thing else you think I should definitely do or look at?

Don't want to spend unnecessary bucks, but do people usually replace battery after a certain period of time? The tires look fine but how long before people start thinking they're too old/hard? I wouldn't think 3-4 years.

Thanks again!

How long has it been sitting since you rode it last?

Oil/Primary like your planning. Never hurts to change it when in doubt.

As long as your battery works, you should be fine. Just make a point to keep it on a tender if you're not running the bike in awhile.

If you have any dry rotting, bulging, or anything of the sort then you should probably change them. I'm guessing your husband rides? If so he should be able to tell you if they're still good. If it's only been a couple months, you're probably fine.

20k in 6 months is a LOT of riding around. Didn't think that would be possible unless you have an extremely long commute or are a trucker.

Wow that is really low! I bought mine in Feb. with just over 1800 and just turned 12000 the other day. I bought mine to RIDE! It sure beats the hell outta my 4Runner.

you can always use a stabil in the gas or seafoam. any time i have a engine sit i use stabil. Also try using the buell more and parking the honda a little :D whats the since in having 2 bikes if you dont put m to good use.

If its stored where the temperature doesnt fluctuate much, rubber and oil doesnt tend to go bad as fast. U could prolly just warm it up and dump the oil and thats all i wouldnt bother with the primary if its already got synthetic in it.
