Hello, I am Ben, And I come here as I wish to put a 240MM Backtire on my 2003 Buell Firebolt XB9-R, I know it will affect the performance but I don't carve twisties anymore, as you can probably guess by my username, I am tied with duty, the 240 kits ive seen are CRAZY!!

And i can't find anything searching if anyone would be kind enough to provide me with a PART by PART on what I would need, wheel, sprocket, ect... to do the conversion, as I plan to buy it piece by piece whenever I have spare cash flow..links or exact names of the part would be perferred11 I would gratley appreciate it, God Bless you all, Happy Fourth Of July!

(I Am currently running a 200/50/zr17 Shinky 009, no mods fit right on no problems)

welcome!

1st off nice bike. just sold a 2003 airbox cover same color :D

i've been runnin 200's too. figured out u can do a 240 but it has to be a 240/40 r17. not alot out there but its an option.

otherwise, there is a write-up, thread on a 240 conversion, swingarm mod somewhere here. the guy filled in the oil tank and some other stuff.

glw the mod [up]

its a 240/40/18... usual set up for this option and there are several tyre choices. will fit a standard swing arm, but with a chain conversion. a guy here has done it by notching the swingarm for the belt. dont know that that is a good idea. i am going chain for this on one of mine.

these guys are a great help

otherwise its a 240/45/17. this is the same tyre that is on the diablo diaval. it has a more rounded shape and will give a much better feel. i want to try this tyre. but the hard part is geting the standard rim to 8 inch wide with out going an inch taller.

@twoguns will the 240/45/17 fit on the stock wheel? I have a 200/50/17 now which fits fine, and actually has a lot of clearance with the belt.

no. hte stock rim is only 5.5 inch. you need an 8 inch rim. 200 is the largest you can go on the standard rim.

Thanks pal, can you possibly direct me to a wheel that will work? I'm sorry, LOL i was trained to blow stuff up, :/ Im fine with buying a new wheel, or having one widened.. i just need to know a rim that will fit on the axel and what not

hte link above. they have and modify buell wheels for you. ask and you shall recieve.

Blah. Wish I could just find a site that sells wheels, for around 200-400$ and just order direct. :L I don't mind changing the back wheel, just need to find one cheap/fits.

I bought another wheel off eBay and sent it to Grandstanddesigns.com. They widen it and sent me the kit. A little pricey but I decided to go to a SS swing arm to clear the tire height.
Still in love! Sadly I don't find time to ride it lately. :(

There is a also a spacer between the wheel hub that's needed to clear the tire.

It's a 280, but it will give you some great ideas about how far you can take your Buell..
A 280 will NOT fit in a stock swing arm. This thread is about what the biggest size that will fir in a STOCK swingarm like i have pictured above ^^^^^.

Turboraven (The guy with the 280 tire) cut his swing arm and welded extra material in. Like i said, this specific thread is asking for the biggest size in his STOCK swing arm.

And the kit cost me about $2,700 by the time i was done.

i just got my rim yesterday. have all the other bits, and once i have the tyre fitted hopefully this weekend. by the end of next weekend i hope oompah to be sporting a dunlop elite 3 240/18/40, and this project will total close to 3500 AUD by time its completed.

twoguns thats awesome!!! Congrats on the hard part. I look forward to the parts. You will LOVE IT! Cant take my bike anywhere without it getting pictures taken. People love the fat tire look.

Out of curiosity doesnt putting a wider wheel and spacer for the sprocket throw out the alignment for the chain? How far out can you come with the drive sprocket before you start getting holes in your legs?

Front sprocket is pushed out to align with rear sprocket. Not sure how far you can go out but any farther and rear sets will be so far out that things will look dumb and be uncomfortable. I'm working on a full review of my bike soon.

here is one for you.

see the pic.

i am just putting the kit together and the bolts touch the swing arm. did you experience this? how close is yours? i got hte kit from grandstands/fat300 cycles.

did you have to offset the rearset a little? i ddint think that was required with this kit and the chain?
