6 Axis ABS + XB12?

A XB12 with modern ABS would be my ideal bike. Not here to argue that ABS is superior or convince anyone to like it - but my experience has shown me that riding a lot without it just increases the risk of an accident when something unexpected happens. So this would be my ideal bike. Have you seen any modders add ABS to a Buell? We all know there is a lot of unnecessary complexity on modern bikes, but the functionality ABS provides is useful enough to justify it - and so it makes sense to design the most fault tolerant ABS system possible. The 6 axis ABS makes ABS function coherently throughout a turn as well. I don't know about the latest Buell bikes, but they don't appeal to me like the XB naked bikes... So hoping I can find a way to have my cake and eat it too (corning ABS + XB12Ss). I don't know the up-to-date Buell story; is there potential they'll make something like that, must I go custom, or is there something that exists like this?
Thanks!

There’s only a few ABS systems made for bikes manufacturers of the bike don’t make the actual system. It’s possible to retrofit a system from a donor bike. But the calibration of the system could be a bit complicated.
Maybe not if you found a donor that ran the same size tires and the same weight bike the same size master cylinders then just figure out how to install tone rings on wheels not designed for them………..

I hope you figure it out! I would love to have linked ABS on my XT and SS.

I hope the new Buell survives long enough to get ABS so the retrofit would be a piece of cake.

If they could offer it as a kit for XB bikes that might even save them a few $ on the hardware if they could purchase 1000 sets or more for production.
So the kit would have a ABS module all new hard lines for the brakes brackets new hoses, maybe master cylinders, but definitely new wheels and the tone rings and sensors.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the kit cost around the same price as a nice ( really nice) used XB.

I’ve done stupid investments before but I would buy the kit if stayed under $2500.

Well maybe if they use the bearings with tone rings/encoders and did not have to redesign the wheels a kit could be as low a a grand.
Honda has ABS on $5000 new bikes as standard equipment (CB300)
Biggest problem for a kit would be the legal requirements

Basic tone-ring ABS is one thing (like the CB300). Expensive, complicated, hard to retrofit, but possible.... and I would trust it about, as much as I trust those **** $300 'upgrade' systems that barely work to satisfy the NHTSA anyway.

6-axis IMU with the proper calibrating would be bordering impossible, but definitely not cost effective by any stretch of the imagination and the 7+ digits of cash you'd have to spend on a niche out of production decade old bike would be better spent on hookers and blow,

IMO.

I agree that it would cost too much to specifically make a kit for these obsolete bikes. My thought was if the new Buell models were to come with it those parts Might be an upgrade option. But I don’t think it will happen.

I agree with ya.

The New Buell has done the sum of zero to progress the decade old design of the EBR 1190. It was (and IS) woefully lacking in electronics, even the day it debuted in 2014. They won't even address the sub-$30 fix facebook terror mongering of the PCV solenoid.

Un-ironically why I love that dang thing so much.

Once ABS is federally mandated for all motorcycles, bu-bye....:sorrow:

Reread this thread and Cooter mentioned “when abs is mandatory for all bikes” if that happens like India did in 2017 iirc the new Buell will have to step up or quit. So maybe if we keep riding ten more years the stuff will be available to retrofit abs to all XB’s

Even though the OP was short lived and long gone, NCCR has developed ABS for Buell and EBR.

Yes, I'm shocked too. But never underestimate true believers like those guys are!

I saw your post and have searched NCCR’s website and googled Buell ABS to no avail. Where did you see their Abs curios minds want to know.

They have mentioned it before, maybe the XB/ AIM dash plug-n-play video? Anyway they mentioned it again in the latest vid (about the 7 min mark IIRC) and I thought about this thread.

Talking to Buell today at Daytona they just said it was 'in the plans' but wouldn't say much more than that. Bikes looked cool, but nothing concrete being said to make plans around yet, lots of hope though. The new sport tourer sure has a lot of Ulysses XT DNA in it's ergos...
