I just purchased a 99 buell x1, 7k miles, vance & hines slip on and a hypercharger air cleaner. The bike looks show room condition and has bran new tires on it. When I test rode the bike 2 days ago it ran good, other than I could tell it hadn't been tuned for the pipe and air cleaner. Later to find out the muffler had been gutted so I'm sure its running lean. Anyways I bought it, brought it home, changed the oil and plugs and took it on a short ride to top off the fuel. When I got back home it was missing at low rpms and wouldnt hardly idle. I noticed that when I turn the key on and turn on the ignition switch on I can hear the fuel pump kick on and prime, but it sounds weak and clappy. I've had several fuel injected sport bikes before and distinctly remember the loud buzz of the fuel pump priming up. I am thinking the fuel pump is crapping out. Any input is greatly appreciated. Trying to get back on the road.

The great thing about these bikes is they use replacement Walbro fuel pumps. I had to replace mine after I dug the bike out of the previous owner's garage where it sat for years.

Ran the numbers on the factory fuel pump and cross referenced it to an SN95 V6 mustang fuel pump. Grabbed a Walbro replacement pump and got it back on the road in short time.
