Adding leds wiring question

Ok so im only doing the rear tire for now till i figure a better way to run the front wires

Id say run it with the brake cable and wrap it with something that way you'll have plenty of slack and it'll be hidden.

But there isnt a brake line on both forks. I did hook up the rear leds and wired them to the wireless relay, they seem to work great right now. Im going to put on the glow tape tomorrow and take it out tomorrow night to see how it looks. I'll post a pic

how closely did you position the rear LEDs to the tire? I was looking at my bike and there is a good 3 inches or so between the swingarm and the rim, I wasn't sure if it would be better to use a bracket and place the LEDs close to the rim or keep them further out. Also, using ultraviolet LEDs with a narrow view angle (10 degrees) would help prevent people from seeing the light splash from the LEDs and you would only see the glow strip.

Why would a blue glow be illegal and a green not be? It isn't any different than how lots of other bikers put LEDs all over the engine or having neon lights on a car.

For the wires on the front forks, you could run the wire from the left side underneath (or over) the fender to the right side, then run both wires together with the break line up to your controls.

Well here iowa blue lights are illegal because they can only be used on emergency car nd trucks. And im only going to test the rear leds on the glow tape later. I already made some shims to move the leds closer to wheel if need be

Ok still havnt got around to putting the tape on but i wanted to share this. I bought this wireless relay module online to turn the lights on and off. Its a logisys rm01ic. First off the module itself is tiny about 2"x1.5". After i installed it i was skeptical but this thing works great. I would recommend this to anyone installing lights or electronics on a bike or car.

Hey that remote thing is pretty cool! I was just thinking of using a waterproof on/off switch.

For Iowa laws is it ANY blue lights or blinking? I guess some states have different laws, I think here in NC blue lights are ok but they can't blink or flash quickly like police lights.

I also think for any state the blue light blinking or not cant be facing forward ir to the rear. And i like the wireless remote because it mounts perfect under the passenger seat and then i didnt have to run more wires for a switch somewhere.

Ok so I was reading through NC regulations on blue and red lighting on vehicles.

Their definition is forward facing blue lights, or appearing similar to law enforcement lights or lights operated by the vehicle's battery/electrical systems. Technically speaking, the only lights operated by the bike's electricals would be ultraviolet LEDs facing inward, the phosphorescent tape/paint only glows, and would glow anyways if the sun lights it up.

I plan on finding a police officer and asking about it. I just really like the color blue [cool]

Not sure about there but in CA we can just call the highway patrol dispatch and talk to an officer about vehicle codes n what not.

I am ordering my parts right now. I think I will just go with the tape and then I can take it off and do the blue later if I decide to.

I found an awesome deal for 10 pre-wired ultraviolet LEDs for less than $10 shipped. The have the resistors already in them so I can just wire all 4 LEDs up in parallel after my switch and fuse.

Kab, how easily did the glow tape bend for you? Did you cut it smaller than 1/2 inch wide?

Leds i used

I had to cut the tape to about an eighth inch to get it to bend. But im not sure how good its going to stick so i might redo it and use some 3m adhesive promoter and run like two 1/8 stripes.

Fyi i might be peeling off this tape and laying a bead of 3m 94 adhesion promoter down then the tape. Its the same stuff used to apply the frame pucks. I MIGHT be doing this, it says it works on tape. Where the glow tape met after going around the rim started to peel up and when i pulled it a little it didnt seem to be sticking all that well. I cleaned the lip of the rim multiple times with alcohol, so im not really sure this stuff will hold going at a decent speed.

Oh those LEDs look better than the ones I got, but they will have a larger viewing angle. oh well, I will stick with mine for now, I'll probably pick up some LED holders at radioshack. The setting time for a lot of the glow tapes is 24 hours after application.

Actually have a question. Im going to wire up auxiliary brake lights on my swing arm, and my questions are:
1: Does anyone know os theirs some kind of wire insulation that I can put the wires in to protect it.
2: Is their some type of wire loom that will hold the wires close to the swing are so its not dangling

So I've got these little fully self contained LED marker lights that I've been wanting to use on my bike somewhere. I got a small toggle switch from autozone not im just wondering if I need something in between the battery and the LEDs other then the switch? Maybe a small 5amp fuse?
