Adding leds wiring question

I did a test with the glow tape. I bought 1/2" wide but I had to cut it in half for it to curve around the rim without bunching up. The heat gun helped too.

You want to put the fuse between the battery and the switch, then after the switch run to the lights. Not sure on amperage though, it depends on how much current the lights are rated for.

Dusty i would wire it off the plate light wiring .
then it is on with your park lights and on with the bike.
Already fused to.
Did this on my 1125r and my zx10r works well

That is the orange wire with the white stripe right? I didn't know that was already fused, that is good to know, although LEDs can't take as much current as the other electrical components, so it might be good to add a fuse anyways.

I thought about hooking them up to the parking lights but not where they're on when the bike is on. I just want to be able to hook them up to the parking lights that are past the lock position on the ignition... Make sense?

Tried looking for a picture of the ignition but Google failed me. Anyway our ignitions have 4 positions. Acc (#1), locked (#2), Off (#3), and On (#4). From the locked position (#2) if you were to turn the key to the left one more position to #1 that's when I idealy want the lights to come on.

Not sure why I just explained all that **** to you guys cause you all know it anyway. Probably because I'm bored and killing time before I go out and get drunk.

Blaylock, did you use any type of adhesive to get the tape to stick or just the heat gun?

I just used whatever adhesive came on the tape. I used the heat gun to try to help it flex around the rim, but it seemed like the heat gun made it stick better too because the glue got warm and tacky. The tape adhesive says it takes 24 hours to set. I am going to do the other side and rear wheel tomorrow and try to get my LEDs wired up. I forgot to bring my flip camera home with me so I can't promise any good videos, but I will keep taking pictures. I am looking forward to see kab's work.

Looking good!! I really want to do this to mine and my brothers bike!

Well i can give a list of stuff i used, everything i bought came to under 50$ but i did have some stuff laying around i used too. I ordered some 3m adhesive promoter and im going to remove the tape i have on now and redo it different. Im thinking instead of one piece all the way around the rim using alot of 3" pieses with a small gap inbetween.

Ha, at that point you might as well use glow in the dark paint. I am still planning on doing the paint on mine (not set on a color yet but I still want blue), I am just using the tape as a test.

Imo painting the lip of the rim would be a pain in my ass. The 94 primer will help make the tape stick better and still be pretty easy. I like how everything has turned out so far. I was suprised how much of a directed beam the led pods give being their about 3" away. If there wasnt snow outside id get a good video. You cant really even tell the tape is on there unless you get pretty close and look at it.

I was wondering why your wires looked differently but I realized you have the older style swingarm. Here are some pics from mine. I got the rear LEDs working and wired up, the mounts are a little ugly, but will only the rear left one is visible so I will try to cover it somehow.

So for the front I have decided to run one wire down by the brake line, then it will split and run the LED on the right. For the left LED, I am going to run a 22/2 wire underneath the front fender with 2 bullet connectors on each side for easy removal, and the wire will be held using a big piece of black vinyl wrap. The vinyl wrap is extremely sticky and very flexible with a heat gun. That way the wire won't be visible and I won't need to epoxy the wire onto the fender.

Great news! I just got a response back from the UNCC police department about blue glow in the dark on bike wheels. This is the response I got:

Mr. Blayock,

I reviewed the NC General Statute ( 20-130.1(c) ) which covers blue lights. In my opinion it would be allowed. I am not telling you to do it, it's your call. If you decide to do it I would keep a copy of he statute with you when you ride so if you do get pulled over you can refer to it and ask the Officer to point out what part of the statute you are violating. I don't think the Officer would be able to do it. Good luck and RIDE ON.

I'm excited anyways...lol

Here is a picture of my switch for my LED's. It turned out pretty good, easy to get to while riding and hidden. I to wanted to be noticed from the side so I added these white LED strips (from AutoZone) inside my air box and under my seat accenting the shock and swing arm. Looks a little blue through the Kick Ash color but still really bright! I want to add the tape to the wheels but am concerened where I will hide a couple of the wires from the UV light pods. The trouble would be with the right side rear light and the left side front. I like the tape or wrap under the front fender idea but still not sure about the rear right light pod.

The wire on the right of my swingarm is mostly hidden by the the rear belt guard. I bought individual LEDs, but I kinda wish I had bought those LED pods. I may go ahead and buy the pods since they are only 10 bucks for 4. I should have taken some pictures of the rear wiring. I decided I am going to replace the glow-in-the-dark tape with blue glow-in-the-dark paint.

My dad thought of a really neat way to do the paint: put the bike up on the stand, use a pin striping brush and just spin the wheel while holding the brush in place.

The led pods i bought off ebay actually came with 5. There are 4 leds in each pod. And as u can see in my one pic they have a pretty nice focused beam even at 3".

Kab, What kind of tape splitter did you use and where did you get it? Also where did you get the 3m 94 adhesion promoter and how much does that cost?

Thanks in advance!
