So I replace my stock exhaust last year, and in doing so, thought it would be ok to just throw the stock in a box and leave it sit. Apparently that was a bad idea. It is covered in surface rust and getting worse as time goes by. My first thought is to get it sand blasted to remove the rust, but I have no idea how to store it after. Input would be greatly appreciated.

you could repaint it after you get is sand blasted and then maybe spray a light coat of wd40 or something to further keep it from rusting.

when I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, (hot, humid and surrounded by ocean) spraying your bike down with WD40 was a great way to ward off surface rust. [up]

After you sand and have painted, I would suggest looking into vacuum packing in PET film versus coating with a penetrating oil...doing so will remove the risk of staining or discoloration...

Thanks everyone. I got it sand blasted yesterday and the guy said it's still solid so that's good. Debating now whether to wd it or vacuum seal it... both very good ideas but I'm thinking that since this is gonna be long term the vacuum seal might be best. I'm taking it to another buddy next week to have any rust inside removed as well now, guess he's gonna spray something inside and clean it then dry the whole thing. I asked if he could do the vacuum seal as well and he can so I'm leanin that way now.
