Great responses everyone, thanks! Pulled the trigger on her, brought her home and still sitting in the garage. It aches me to have to wait another 2 weeks before I can ride her, but need to stay legal and wait for the endorsement on my license. Still need to order helmet, jacket, and all the other protective gear. In the meantime, I feel confident in getting some drop pegs. Thanks for the suggestion above about the Pirate pegs, checked them out and they look nice. Also need to adjust the shift lever, sitting too low for me to shift comfortably.

Here's a pic....2006 XB12R, 3900 miles on her, Drummer exhaust (sounds great at idle AND on the throttle), K&N filter and air/water separator mod for the crankcase (kinda neat feature really)...that's it. She's in excellent condition, needs new tires. All in a short time.

Yeah, drop pegs.

Rear brake will run out of adjustment, cut off the flat section. You'll see it when you look.

Long rides: get padded bicycle shorts.

Learn the front brake.

Have fun.

Nice Bike..... You made the right choice.... I have 2 sons that ride and all their buddies that stop by the garage..... The Buell's are as popular as Duc's with the kids....

Also a suggestion with the drop pegs you will eventually want a set of adjustable brake and shift lever, ASB has some with multiple settings I am going to order this week. Lots of luck brother. Talk to Member Puzzled on here, he sell's the pirate adjustable in different sizes and colors, he can get them at a better price then I found anywhere else.

I'm 6'2" 230 and I'd say it is still a comfortable fit. I have one of the XB9's with a Lightning SCG seat so it's a little lower. Thinking about dropping pegs since everyone is saying good things about it in here.

That kinda sucks about your endorsement taking so long. I took a 2-day class down in Denver and they gave us a card at the end that was supposed to mean "temporary endorsement" for the cops if we got pulled over (I got pulled over the first day for turning left on a red [it was really close but no ticket] and the cop didn't mind the temporary card). I was riding my first bike on the back streets for a week illegally, then immediately after the class legally.

Well the 2 week deal is because the class is held at a local tech college and it stays pretty booked up, so I reserved my spot for this a couple of months ago. They offer it each weekend, a 3 day course total. In NC, you can just go down to the DMV and take a written and skills test (on a bike) and get your learners permit for the bike, but with the safety course you bypass the skills test and don't have the restrictions of the learners permit, rather you get the "full" privileges (being able to carry a passenger mainly) and also save on your insurance which pretty much pays for itself in the long run.

The bike needs a new rear tire and I need rider gear, so the wait actually works out well for me :)

Aside from the Red/Gold combo, the Blue/Gold combo is my favorite. I wish the 1125s came in the same color combinations as the XBs. That'd be sweeeeeeeeet. Either way, that is a beautiful Buell you have there. Great idea to wait for gear and endorsement. Thumbs up on being smart about it. Congrats brother, and welcome to the family!

6'2" and a lean 175 lbs! XB12R fits like a dream! Glad to see there are many other riders 50+ lbs heavier than me who fit their 12R's too - means I can keep visiting Five Guys without fear of outgrowing my bike!

Actually jkf12982 you dont have to take the skills test for a permit. You can go down there and just take the written part and they will give you a learners permit which the only restriction is you can't ride with a rider. Then you can go back up there to take the skills test with your bike to get the full license. I just went through this last month. I'm still on a learner permit right now. I dont have anyone to ride as a passenger so I'll probably wait till spring to take the skills test and get the restriction lifted. Getting the learners permit and then riding for a bit then taking the skills test will be cheaper then the BRC. But I hear the skills learned in BRC are really good.

Even with how "corny" or uncool a BRC class is, I really feel like I am a lot safer rider having gone through that. The other option to learn how to ride would have been my brother or cousin throwing me on a bike and showing me where the throttle is. It's nice to learn in 2 days what some riders haven't learned in 30 years.

The two instructors in my class were old Harley dudes, so it was fun to listen to their stories and see them teach.

You will love the XB12. Im 6'1 200 and love goin on long twisty rides. Makes the buddies jealous when you pull away from them in turns when they say they have "better bikes".

I did the drop pegs and had a custom seat made that is about two inches taller. I'm 6'4" and about 280. It's now super comfortable to me... I bought my first one in Ohio and rode it back to OK in stock form... It fit ok, but after 900 miles my legs were a bit cramped, my reasoning for the mods to the second Firbolt.
