From what I can tell, the area that the shop is located in has not been affected (everything south of the 78, for those of you who know San Diego freeways), but I can't say for sure. I would give them a call, but I really doubt they would be at work during all of this... :(

Ok, I grew up in La Costa and went to school in Encinitas (SDHS) so I know the area well. They may very well be out of the line of fire. Suxors.

JWoody, I think they are opening a lot of major roadways up there because either the fire has moved on or they've contained it enough. [up]

Negative, that's a win-win :D

Live about 2 miles from the shop, Al and family are good from what I know. He cancled our group meet-up yesterday do to highway closure.

Right on the money Joe (literally ... ha!) ... Maybe soon I'll have a rebuild/upgrade thread of my own when I do a 1250 kit ... my 9 has just really suffered from the previous owner's care ....... (or lack of I should say) ... I should have done a rebuilt thread when I first got the damn thing lol ...

On Topic: I, for one, am honestly relieved to know that Crash ... I don't know them personally but I've heard nothing but good things about them on and around here ... [up]

Parking lot at work just before we got evacuated.

Nothing like having to watch people's homes burn right in front of you as you're stuck in gridlock traffic evacuating. I was REALLY regretting not having ridden the bike.

Thanks, Crash. I didn't know they were that close, but it's very good to know.

Negative, I'm definitely interested in that 1250 big bore, but can't afford it until later (maybe as a rebuild, about 20k miles from now).

Noobuel, those pics really put things in perspective. In the 2004 fires, I had a girl friend who had a house on the edge of an evacuation zone, where we could see flames over rooftops at night. It's gut-wrenching to see homes lost like that...

Honestly I cannot even imagine losing everything like that ... I've had to start over from "scratch" a couple of times from moving and downsizing to suit my income on new jobs from place to place .... but losing EVERYTHING like that minus what I'm weaing/driving ..... =\ even thinking about it gives me that sinking feeling ....

Oh it's gonna happen to mine ... sooner or later ... because, and maybe it's just me, I think I'm starting to hear a little more engine noise ... =\

The 2003 Cedar fire got close enough to our place we could see flames from our bedroom window just across the street. We had enough warning that we could get our important items packed in time to evacuate. The folks in those homes the other day I doubt had enough warning. I imagine most were still at work and since the roads were so crowded it was unlikely they got to their homes to save anything. That fire moved FAST due to the Santa Ana winds.
