Gosh it kills me to have to post another thread about this topic that has been beaten to death, but I recently got a new computer and had to reload ECMSpy and the cable drivers and I can't get the cable/bike to be recognized. I just keep getting an error message when I plug in the cable saying that the USB device isn't recognized. I've installed VCP drivers from FTDI and the xopti site. Still getting the same message. This happens whether the bike is connected, not connected, turned on, or not turned on. Basically happens anytime I connect the cable to the USB port on the computer. Just for fun I tried loading the drivers on my wife's laptop and had the exact same issue. Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Are you sure your chipset is FTDI? It may also be Prolific. The bike being on/off should have nothing to do with the cable being recognized. It should be assigned a COM port immediately upon being plugged in.

I'll try the Prolific drivers. I agree that this should be recognized immediately, bike or not. I think what I downloaded from xopti was Prolific.

The xopti site has a chipset verification tool. On Com3 it says "No PL2303 Chip". On all the other COM ports it says "Open COM port failed". I assume this means I'm not Prolific. I'm pretty sure the FTDI drivers worked for me when I had this installed on my previous computer.
