why would you do that? seems more dangerous to carry an unloaded gun if you end up in a situation where you need it. if you are carrying just to scare people away from you while riding you might want to re-evaluate why you are carrying a gun. are you going to shoot someone if they do cut you off or try and entice you to race...i doubt it.
And i personally carry concealed 99% of the time but am not to worried if people get a glimpse of it when i bend over or reach for something. Some states have brandishing laws but if OC is allowed i wouldn't be too worried if someone sees it or not.

I agree, if you are not willing to pull the trigger then having the firearm(unloaded) will only hurt you.

I never keep a round in the chamber, just because, but I always have the magazine in. IMO, if you don't have time to pull the slide back(1 second, tops) then you're SOL anyway.

Modern firearms are designed to be carried with a round in the chamber. Draw, aim, shoot. That second or two it takes to chamber a round could mean your life. In battle, microseconds literally count.

Consider me chambered at all times.

I'm a gun lover but why do you need to carry riding? I'm not judging I just have never felt I needed a gun on a ride. Maybe because I typically ride the adirondacks. However if I'm ever meeting someone to buy a bike that's another story! All the seller knows is your coming with lots of cash.

Yeah I carry a 1911 all the time locked and loaded..... how else would you carry it lol I do carry empty chamber when open carrying on bike.

I use shoulder holster on motorcycle or open carry. The key with open carry is to have a good retention holster like a blackhawk serpa. The biggest problem with open carry in pa is a lot of places won't let you in if you open carry.

I highly doubt that would hold true in most cases. If you don't have 1 second to pull the slide back, then you probably will never see whatever is coming at you anyway. I can chamber a round in the same motion as pulling the firearm up from the hip, so it doesn't really take any longer anyway.

Not that I'm against carrying it loaded, just for whatever reason I'm more comfortable not having one in the chamber.

It's not that I feel the need to carry while riding... I feel the need to carry all the time. I live in a nice neighborhood that is nestled nicely between the worst parts of two cities. In order for me to go anywhere, I have to drive through some very unpleasant neighborhoods.

The only time I don't carry is if I'm going to a state that disallows it.

If I wasn't in college, I'd have to carry riding because riding is how I commute. I didn't renew my CC because I am either at home or at school and since CC is still not legal at schools I just let it expire. Some people commute on their bike so they would have a need to carry while riding. I only drive maybe once every two weeks and that is for groceries the rest of the time I'm on two wheels.

For me, I carry all the time, so having my pistol with me is second nature. I don't imagine firing while riding, but you never know when & where the crazies will appear: at a stoplight, a gas station, a burger joint etc. this is the point of carrying in the first place. Carrying chambered only betters your odds in the off chance you need your weapon.

The XDM has been torture tested: dropped from buildings, run over by trucks, frozen, buried, etc. With the passive safeties, it is virtually impossible for it to fire without intention.

Carrying can be intimidating at first, and I carried for a month before deciding to carry a chambered weapon. But once I made that transition, I never went back. Use good quality equipment; a good holster is worth the extra money.

In the end, a gun and how you choose to use it is as much of an individual choice as which motorcycle you choose. So take the first step and start carrying. Figure out what works best for you, practice, practice, practice and focus on safety first. All the other details will fall into place. Make sure you are very familiar with local laws wherever you find yourself and follow them. If you get pulled over, you will get points with the officer if you tell them right away that you are carrying. I've been commended by cops for doing this.

Good luck, be safe.

I agree with the first response to your question. I carry my g26 in a white hat iwb holster by far the most comfortable, secure and very easily accessible! Think about getting a compact or sub compact weapon for carrying on your bike. I have many guns and holsters and found this combination to be by far the best.

i agreed with everything until you said this. Unless you live in a state where you are required to inform police you are armed KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. They have no need to know unless they are going to search you. It sounds like a good idea until your thrown to the ground and get your neck stepped on by a cop who doesnt like the fact that you are carrying.

i have a custom leather holster for my Ruger SP100. I only CC, while loaded and hope to never have to use it.

I agree, telling them up front for absolutely no reason seems suspicious. If there is a need to tell them, then tell them at that point.

I told a Leo once when I got pulled over and your exactly right you get treated like a criminal I'll never do it again.....

To each his own I guess. These are the things that make gun posession such a personal & individual experience.

thanks everyone for the info on how you carry looks to me the shoulder holster option will probably be my best bet but will try others also

What state do you live in? I typically open carry in PA while riding. We dont have a carry permit required to open carry, but on a motorcycle or in a car you have to have your License to Carry Firearms. OC is waaaaay more comfy when riding.

I live in michigan and we do have OC but the laws for transporting pistols screws us over on that. lets say you want to carry to a grocery store, you first have to have an unloaded pistol in a case in the trunk of your car and ammo in a different compartment. Then when you get to the store you can open your trunk load your pistol and proceed to OC until you go to leave then back to unloaded and storing the pistol in your trunk. so when it comes to motorcycles i dont think it will pass having a loaded gun on you while riding.

I'm sure i dont need to carry while riding i never had a problem before where i needed a gun, but once it warms up here my bike is my only form of transportation until bad weather. I've just always wanted to carry and with the way the world seems to be going to **** i would like to have some form of defense.

I have always rode with my lc9 iwb using a crossbreed holster but since I plan on wearing leather pants now I may have to reconsider. I do not have a tank bag so my choices are my jacket or backpack. Neither are ideal in my opinion.
