Anybody know how long the engine last in a XB12X

I had an 06 Ulysses that bought new in May of 07 in May of 08 I was hit by a pickup truck and the bike is no more. I had 14,000 miles on the bike the saleman told me I would get 100k out of the engine When talking to HD owners and mechanics they laugh and say 50k if I'm lucky I'm going to replace my Ulysses with an 08 or 09 if I can't get more then 50k out of it I'll spend the big bucks and get R1200 GS BMW anybody got real miles on a Buell

With proper servicing, I have seen them easily lasting 50k. Spend the money to maintain it and it will pay you back with a longer life.

have alot a guys here that have over 70000km without hastles...so 50k+ should be no problem.

know a few guys with tubers over 100000km, but then again, their engines are no longer original

I had an 85 Sporty with 56k (miles) on it, still runs like a top. It started out as an 883, had about 40k on it when a 1200 conversion was put on it.

It was still a temperamental 20 year old v-twin that leaked oil, but son-of-a-bitch did that thing run great. Nothing like pulling a wheelie on a bike like that.

I was just reading about a guy in the touring forum that did a 17000 mile trip and has 64000 on his Ulysses and runs great. that's the kind of miles I would like to see. I can save $5000 as well. It was a great bike.[smirk]

this is just what i was looking for how many miles to expect... totaled my vmax .always had the buell in back of my mind after 4 to 5 years i dont want to start thinking about a rebuild plus dealing with small problems that pop up......metric v twins and just about any metric motor go well beyond 100.000 miles with very few issues,,,,,,lot of money to pay for a short life span in a motor

owned many harleys from 80 ci to s&s 113 ci...think that cr water cooled in a few years should be a high milage motor...the vrod water cooled motor is a great motor for high milage and dependability ..love the looks just wish they made a model with a longer larger frame with the vrod motor..power cruiser machine

I've had my '06 ulysses for about a year and a half and have about 30,000 miles on it. Still going strong.

I ain't seen one last more than 26,000 miles here.
I've got one bud who blew his first engine @ 26k,
then blew it again @ 24k.
He's on his third...

Another friend made it to 25k...

No one else I know has gotten that far.
My '03XB9S just topped 50k...
They're tellin' me I'm good for another 50...

KW, I have owned 52 motorcycles, mainly BMW's and HD's and will tell you the sporster/buell engine is one the most durable in the world. You will put a clutch or a tranmission in a BMW before you ever touch that Buell. Run Mobil 1 synthetic, change every 3000 miles and forget about it.

first off, i got my first buell last fall. i have been a hardcore harley rider all my life. if it said harley on it, i have either owned it or rode it.
from my experience, i think you guys are selling them short. the stealerships will tell you they need to be replaced, or overhauled, but aint that conveint coming from the guy selling the replacement/overhaul? maybe if you hotrod the hell out of them they might have problems, but if you take care of them they should take care of you.
