My bike is slow to start. It pauses for about 1 or 2 seconds before it turns over. Is that normal. I have read that people add acid to there batteries. Where would you buy it and what is the procedure?

Anyone know where to get a cheap battery new. One that puts out.

Its not letting me post an url for some reason. There are batteries on ebay for about 50 bucks but they seem like universal applications. Is there a part number we could use to look up our specific battery.

you can get a decent battery at batteries plus for cheaper than what the dealer will charge you. you can also get battery acid at most any auto parts place. if im not mistaken here these batteries are sealed for our bikes and you cant just add acid to them.

Found that all the batteries I found were 200 cold cranking amps except this one from Batteries plus that 80 bucks. Its got 260. I'm going to go with that.Batteries

screamineagle when you go to batteries plus you NEED to get one from the X2 series. i know from experience, the one listed for our bikes that is not the X2 will be eaten alive and shot in a month or 2. lucky for me batteries plus is good about warranty and i not only got a new one but the X2 batt. because they screwed up. definitely save your recipt for the warranty for sure!

the original battery (and just about every battery for buells & hd ) is maintenance free battery meaning it is completely sealed with small vent(s) for gases to escape and you can not add water or acid to it without damaging it and causing future problems like excessive leaking . which leads to excessive corrosion in your battery tray and eating away every thing around and under it..

sorry some have vents ,not all, newer dont.
cca is usually missunderstood by many it basicly means starting power for 30 seconds at 0 degrees F. see here for more info.

here are some batteries for buells. and since optima dont make batteries yet for motorcycles go with a gell cell, dry cell, or the best is (AGM) Absorbed Glass Mat battery. just check the dimensions first to make sure they fit and terminal placements.

this is direct fitment for newer buells.

another MAJOR thing that some dont understand why batteries dont last long in V-Twins and your buells is because the 3 things that kill a batery FAST is cold(i.e. winter storage) and HEAT & VIBRATION which buells are very hot running and lots of vibration and then there is also not charging battery to well from the motorcycles' charging system , the buell and most big V_Twins needs lots of volts power to turn over buells need at LEAST 12.8+ volts to turn starter good enough ( u might get lucky with 12.5volts) if it is under 12.4 volts you will have a hard time starting it . i.e. longer starting time or NO START. thats why buells and hd and other vtwin bikes sell them with battery charger & cords attached.

My 07 Firebolt has done the same thing from day one. Other than being weird I have not had any problems. It now has 7500+ mi.

I have read may others that have the same delay.
