Follow on question - what grease should I use for making sure the bearings are well packed before installing them? I"m absolutely clueless on the different kinds of bearing grease....don't want to get something that would be incompatible with what's already there.

I just use a little hammer to get it started, then a block of wood and a big hammer to finish it. No heating, no freezing, no grease.

I wouldn't put to much grease in them because when they heat up the grease will push out threw the seals. There is usually enough in them. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed, I usually don't grease nice bearings. Chinese bearings maybe.

I agree I wouldn't add to the new bearings. But when it comes time to repack them I have had great luck with Lubriplate products.
