This is my first belt drive...

It seems that the idler pulley is not straight by design. The idler pulley direct the belt to stay on the rear pulley. I know this because if you align the idler exaclty with the front pulley the belt is alowed to wander away from the inner edge of the rear pulley.

This is great until you push the bike backwards. The belt is fed toward the outside edge of the front pulley. This causes the teeth on the outside of the belt to wear quickly.

My aftermarket front pulley has a sharp outer edge that I made smooth. WHat is te stocker like? is the lip rounded so the belt is not damaged?

I dunno I just looked at my tensioner and it seems pretty dang straight. bout a 1/4 inch extra on each side. The edges are tapered just a bit

mine is not tapered -perfectly flat.

What happens when you back the bike up 30ft?

On the outer edge of your belt, are the teeth edges rounded or squared off like new?

Nothing happens when I back up besides dropping her in first and taking off. (maybe a wheelie!)

WOW -thanks for the pics!

Your belt pic confirms that when backing up the belt teeth do rub. You can see slight wear marks on the top of the teeth.

Mine is a bit more severe. I am running a lighter aftermarket front pulley. The lip of the pulley was pretty sharp -causing the tooth damage. I have since rounded the edge.

Thanks!

That may be the case, I am actually not sure on this one. My bike only has a little over 2000 miles, so it is a pretty fresh belt

I wouldn't worry about it. Just be careful if you change to aftermarket pulleys.

thanks for your help!
