the secret is take your time and keep it straight. Bearings and bearing bores are a controlled tolerance. They do not have to be a real tight press to make them work. The surface contact area of the outer race is large enough that there has to something way off (like someone beating the F#ck out of a bearing pulling it or seating one to damage the bore. IF a bearing has a damaged seal that causes contamination (corrosion) or loss of lubricant they need to be replaced immediately. A little visual check or pm on a regular basis goes a long way.... Just saying and yes I graduated SKF bearing school to be qualified to install and maintain bearings that cost over $100K a piece for industrial applications.

This post is a joke! They are just wheel bearings! If you are afraid to do them then have them done be someone. They are not hard to do and you are over complicating the whole process. Really 4 pages of posts on how to do a friggin wheel bearing. O-man come on chicago.

as usual ricky you nailed it. novice wheel bearing post should consist of: tricks to remove....part numbers to replace...tricks to install...precise dimensions of inner spacer tube....thanks for the assistance. this blathering and jibberish has taken on a life of its own and sadly it's not even entertaining.

the actual point isn't Lunatic or rchuff being critical, it that the are numerous posts on wheel bearings. Same stuff over and over when a little diligent searching would have answered all your questions.

So I just got a new (to me) 2008 lightning. What is everyone's preference for oil and tires? I'd also like to get a race map if someone can send it.
It's got a NOS can back behind the pegs; does this mean it has nitrous? Here's a video to show the NOS stuff - think it's as fast as an R1 if it's on nitrous?

1-oil? i recommend 2.4 quarts STP with .1 quart conventional 20-50 exxon for good measure
2-tires? 2012 smart-car crosses over front and rear. jakewilson.com has nice sale on them as we speak.
3-nitrous is for sissies and wannabees. lose it. try this stuff..... CH3NO2.......if you're man enough.

Looks like part of the lower belt guard to me
Remove this and store it.

Never heard of a kick stand on the right side but if you take off the 2 bolts that hold the kickstand on you can remove the chin fairing bracket and put your kickstand back on....

Good to hear! Always fulfilling to do the work yourself and learn something new along the way. Amazing how simple and straightforward the XB platform is - there's not much that an average joe can't do themselves.
