I'm posting this is topic as kind of a general request for opinions about how to get my Uly running the best that it possibly can. Don't get me wrong, it runs pretty good now, starts up everytime, has a K&N, stock exhaust, new TPS, NGK plugs, Magnecor wires, updated ECM map, Sea Foam run through, etc. It might be my imagination, but I still have this ever so minor weirdness, like a semi miss, lean out, or whatever it is, at ~3K rpms or lower. I don't think it is an intake seal leak because I had that on my other harley, and it doesn't seem the same, although it could be a very small leak. I do have new James seals, just haven't gotten around to changing them. I did spray around the intake and didn't notice a big RPM change. I might try it again.
So, the big question is: should I get an aftermarket exhaust, with the EBR ECM that is tuned for it. Or should I try to do some data logging runs and continue to try and tweak the map in my ECM? I'm not unhappy with the bike, and its performance, I am just hoping that I can get rid of this stumble that is ever so subtle. The AFV stays at 100, but I did see it go to 105 once.
Thanks in advance to the knowledgeable forum members who will be so kind as to chime in. Also, if anyone in the Houston area would like to ride my Uly and/or let me ride their XB12, it might help me to determine if this is real, or just the nature of the beast. The bike is almost perfect, and if I can't eliminate this, I'll just accept it as part of the Buell XB "character" :) The Uly happens to be my first fuel injected bike, after many years of happy carbing.

Thanks! I'd seen that link before, and I guess I'll give it a try. I'm slightly intimidated by going the logging/tuning route, but I'll do it, since I already have the tools.

jstav: you're not alone, son. my 07 Uly does it as well with a remapped ecm, stock air filter, hawk muffler and low mileage on bike. if i had the balls and capabilities i'd try the recommendation for ecm fuel map adjustment in that link. but i have neither of them.:D

data logging reveals a wealth of info. A while back, I had a stutter when lightly accelerating or cruising through 2000 - 2200 RPM. My seat-of-the-pants experience was that too little fuel was to blame. I added fuel to those regions in my maps (I guessed at the TPS value). Didn't help.

I finally lugged my huge laptop into my backpack (via a USB extension cable) and logged a 20 min. ride. Turn out, I had too MUCH fuel in those regions. My O2 sensor voltage was maxed out in that RPM range, but returned to normal above/below those ranges. An easy fix and tune with the datalogging.

My bike has similar issues, but only at slight throttle usage. I just figure it's nature of the beast, at least for a stock machine.

I'm kinda curious if you resolved the problem?

A ECM relocation might be helpfull as well.

I have performed one datalogging run, and massaged the maps accordingly, but haven't had a chance to download & test them yet due to holidays and weather. I do have the ECM relocated, so I think this might come down to a "lean surge." I will keep you updated as I continue to tune the bike.

Ok, keep us posted.

You made a remark that the stumble maybe the nature of the beast. I had a reflash done by TM in Holland and
after this my bike had no stumbles, no hesistations or anything what so ever. Was running cooler as well. the fan hardly comes on during riding, even in hot weather. Very very smooth now and I can cruise from 2000 rpm in 5th without the bike having dififculties with that. Just saying. :D

burned the new map today, and seems to ride a bit better. I'll keep refining it as I log more runs. It never ran bad, and I could run at 2K in 5th, but it had that "stutter", which is "nature of the beast" as stock (or with the maps I had loaded). I'm confident I can tune it out. Since I'm a computer geek engineer, I'll have fun doing it!
I almost want to buy another XB now :)

haha wel that is good to know. I'm not that computer wise to I had a reflash done by the professionals. Never regreted it for a moment. Bike ran good before... but it ran perfect after. :D
