Half of the fun has been working my motorcycle.
Agreed! I take pride in knowing every nut and bolt on my bike. To be able to tear the bike down, pull a motor, etc and be able to put it all back together.

It is also comforting to know if I am going to risk my life on my bike I want to make 100% certain every fastener is secured, bearings are tight, brakes are done right, etc. I don't want to be stranded. For example during my current big bore upgrade I noticed my fan bearing has a slight squeak and the belt has a small cut in it. I am going to replace them now rather then risk a roadside failure.

Between the FSM, youtube, BuellXB, badweatherbikers, and google search you can do any maintenance (from oil changes to splitting cases) on the bike. The amount of information on the internet is staggering!

Yea, you learn from mistakes I guess. Im ok with turning a wrench, but I'm limited on tools at my apt. Just gotta drop by harbor freight for some more stuff. I appreciate the comments and suggestions. And if I need any help on anything I have the parts/service manual too. As well as this forum. Thanks

Bummer, man. I second everyone who says see the DIY section and snag a service manual. I've figured I'm doing it all myself.

My story about dealerships: I had some work done where the rear wheel was removed for service. The first 15 miles back on the bike and the bolts holding the rear sprocket to the wheel sheared off on the swingarm-while I was on it. Dealer admitted mistake, and I got a new wheel. But let's say something worse happened...

Yea, now that the major stuff is out of the way, I can replace the plugs and wires in a couple months. And get the cosmetic things the way I want it. So hopefully by end of next month, it will in tip top condition and the way I want it to look. I gotta upload pics this weekend

No one will EVER take better care of your stuff than YOU will. No matter what the cost...
I agree wholeheartedly with this, and especially in the case of the motorcycle that you are riding, a bad repair can cost way more than just a broken part or oil leak. My safety is paramount, so that is why I only work on my own bikes.
