Bike died during MSF course

Yesterday I took the MSF advanced rider course. There was a BMW, a couple Hondas and the rest Harleys. The weather was really hot and humid.

Fun part - watching all the guys on Harleys try and do the cornering and tight maneuvering exercises while I had a blast on the Buell.

Shitty part - the heat from my XB12, the frame was so hot it was literally burning my leg. After about 5 hours of mostly waiting and idling it died. I did find one blown 10 amp fuse but when I replaced it the bike still wouldn't stay running. The instructors were cool and gave me a Suzuki 125 to finish the day on. Two hours later the Buell started right up and I was able to get home.

I can't help wonder why our bikes can't handle this? What if you’re stuck in traffic? Are they safe or do you always stand the chance of overheating?

I wonder if I did any damage to it. Even though I'm running synthetic I think I'll change out all the fluids today, any other suggestions?

The same thing happened to my 08scg during the same course and it was the fuel pump fuse! after I replaced it, it ran fine, but the engine light was on and stayed on for about 500mi. and went away. No problems with it since, I put another 1500mi. on it before I left to deploy.

Yes it was the 10 amp fuel pump fuse. My bike is an 08 SCG too.
When I first replaced the fuse, it wouldn't stay running. After a couple hours it started up and was fine for the ride home.

How much fuel did you have in it?
The pump use fuel to cool it doesn't work well when it's low or boiling.
I normaly cut my bike off if I am going to idle a long time

Mine felt the same way when I took mine. Was just glad we took a decent amount of breaks.

I filled the tank the day before the class,I didn't want to run out during.

I wanted to kill the engine waiting in line but the instructors were pretty strict about when to start and kill motors.

Between the heat, humidity, sitting in line in the sun, wearing full gear and the Buell frying my ass, I think I lost at least 5 pounds! Course was worth it though.
