On vacation and went to go for a ride. I heard a loud clicking noise in the rear. Now I'm just hoping I can limp home. Check engine light is still going on and off and speedo was goiing on and off

Called outer banks Harley Davidson they said they don't have any buell parts. I might try Napa in the morning to see if they have wheel bearings. What size is the inside hex on the rear

Dr. Beadrunner, on my 2008, it is 22 mm hex. There may be a tool in your tool kit - it looks like a long nut with a clip in the middle, and there's also a wrench to turn it with. The pinch allen bolt is 3/8" hex.

both axles may be removed/installed with this little trick that not only works well in a shop but in an emergency:
1-get a 1/2 inch drive spark plug socket that fits the older style 13/16th large base plugs.
2-remove the little foam insert that is inside the socket and used to hold plugs during installation.
3-get a 6 inch 1/2 inch drive extension. insert the extension INTO THE SOCKET where the sparkplug would normally be inserted
4-get a 1/2 ratchet driver and install onto the extension. now insert the end of the extension into the axle. there is your device.

Sorry I meant patience I hit the first one that popped up on my phone. If I would have had a pack of matches today I would have burnt it to the ground

lol, I was wondering if anyone would notice my "Dr. Beadrunner" reference above :)

Sorry for your troubles. Keep us updated!

^^ just wondering John..exactly what was going through your mind when you discovered this enlightenment.

That's how I get my axles out and it works great. Great minds think alike john . Lol

we sure do rick! i'll tell ya john how that axle remover epiphany came upon me. many years ago good friend of mine sends his secretary's son over to me with an 03 firebolt. kid calls me on phone....bought online tires...short of funds...bit of a poor soul...going to bring over wheels for tire change and balance. calls back with proclamation of frozen rear axle. brings it over and after a ton of "get outta there ya bastard"......."God Almighty that thing's tight"...."who the hell installed this thing anyway"....had to get serious with hardware. tried the 22mm nut welded to a bolt....more nonsense. finally came up with the socket trick. and the rest is history.:D

I'm gonna try the socket today just to see if the axle is still tight. I replaced the belt last week and maybe it worked loose.

I took a bolt and nut and checked the axle. It was tight so I loosened it and I could hear the clicking noise asi tightened it. Im thinking of taking an icepick to pop a hole in the seal so I can put some spray grease in it to get home. I've got about 70 mi to get home on Sunday

Update: I made it home put the bike on a stand and had the clicking noise until I took the belt off. Rear wheel spins free and easy no noise. Front pulley spins free no noise. The idler spins free maybe just a little play. Im thinking idler pulley maybe?

Finally got it back together. New bearings in the idler The po had an axle bearing go out and messed the wheel up. It had burrs keeping the bearing from seating all the way. I cleaned it up and put it back together. I'll buy another rim soon
