Hey guys, I went to go leave my house and when I tried to start my bike I didn't hear to fuel pump cycle or the starter try to turn it over. I tried disconnecting the battery to reset the ecm with no luck. Any ideas??

Something like that happened to me once and it turned out to be a blown fuse, try opening up the fuse box and checking each one...you can use an unnecessary one to check any questionable fuses, they are labeled on the cover of the fuse box.

Good luck

Ben

I have seen batteries just plain die, out of the blue.

I'm not tryin to insult with such a simple response, but you never know who you're dealing with,or their experience level.

It's not the battery, had it checked at NAPA. I do get lights and gauge sweeps, however normally when I go to start my bike the check engine and oil light will come on but the check engine light doesn't seem to be coming on. thanks for the help.

Might want to start swapping around relays. It sounds like it might be a relay, or the kill switch (which I really doubt).

+1 on trying the relay.

I copied this from an earlier post where I was helping someone diagnose a starting issue.

With everything connected turn the kill switch to OFF and turn the ignition ON.
The instruments should sweep once. The neutral light should be on and the oil pressure light should be on.
Turn the kill switch to RUN - the fuel pump should run for 4 or 5 secs and turn off again. At the same time the fuel pump started running the ECM light should come on and should go off a few seconds after the fuel pump stops.

From what has been said above I think that you are getting no change with the kill switch turned from OFF to RUN?

If that is the case then the easiest thing to check is the IGNITION Relay as that is energised by the KILL switch. If you have a spare relay or your bike has an AUX relay fitted swap that into the IGNITION relay position and try again.

last year i started to run into the same issue that i turned my bike on and got lights and everything but i couldn't get the starter to engage nor did i get the oil light to come on. the cause of it for me was fixed by replacing the ignition relay on the left side of the fairing. i haven't had a problem with it since . i hope this helps you out with your problem

thanks guys, I'm getting the bike towed and will be trying what has been suggested once it gets here. I really hope its just a relay.

Hey, so I got my bike back swapped some relays and got her goin! I'd like to replace the faulty one and have a spare or two, are these buell specific? thanks for the help

I recall reading on one of the forums that there are other automotive relays that would work - GM was quoted but I don't recall where I wrote the number down. I'll see if I can dig it out.

The '06 parts manual lists the relay as 31522-00B - I'm pretty sure the spare I bought a while back was 31422-00C.

The Buell relays aren't expensive but just looking around the web I think that the AR4-012-C21S shown on this site would be a pretty close match.

Motorcycle Superstore

The packet for my genuine one (it was 31522-00C) is marked 'SPDT, MICRO W/DIODE SUP'.
The SPDT means Single Pole - Double Throw (has three little pins), MICRO is this format of relay base and W/DIODE SUP refers to the internal diode fitted across the energising coil (some have resistors). That all matches the one they have displayed - the only thing we don't know for sure is the current rating of the original but that replacement is reasonable at 25Amps on the NC (normally Closed) contacts.
I'm sure that you could find plenty of other brands armed with those specifications.
