Help, I turn the ignition , hear the fuel pump prime, and within half a second the fan kicks in, I turn the key off, wait for 30 seconds, then the fan switches to the 1/2 speed, and then off, each time I turn the ignition on the fan will turn back on. When I hit the started I can hear it cranking, so it has plenty of battery power, tried taking off the cables from the battery, hooked it back up and same problem, and suggestions?

I'm thinking engine temp sensor, but the odd thing is last time I rode it the fan functioned fine, and on this day now it's done?

Just ordered 2 new plugs, I figure if I'm already in there replacing the sensor might as well just be safe and do the plugs, anyone know the best deal for the sensor or have the part #, 05 XB9R

nik: don't know if in conjunction you're also getting a CEL activation but agree it sounds like rear head temp sensor. there is no suitable aftermarket or automotive application sensor i am aware of. either evilbay or surdyke.com probably best pricing. here's your part # son.

Buell part #P1278.K which superseded part #Y0605.K

I do know depending on how the temp sensor failed (failed open or fail closed circuit), sometimes they will fail open and continuously read the bike is overheating when in actuality it's ice cold. Just good for thought to put your mind at ease lol if it did then it most definitely Italy won't let it start but try to cool it off

Replaced the sensor, wasn't the problem, now dropped 100$ just to replace a sensor that wasn't bad *(&^(*&(&*%)^(). Any ideas?

A lot of diagnostics data can be gathered if you have a data link cable and ECMSpy or TunerPro RT.

Even though you replaced the ET Sensor, what does the ECM think the engine temperature is?

Are there any historic, functional, or current trouble codes?

Tried ECMSPY and it wouldn't communicate with the bike. Working 40 hours a week, military, and trips to northern WI doesn't leave me much time to play with the bike. I finally just called a dealer and am gonna have them come pick it up. Wish I had more tools and time, but I think it's better just to face the facts and realize that I will most likely screw something up, or waste my whole season chasing what's wrong.

In reference to your original issue, when did this start happening? Was it running fine one day and then just started misbehaving? Any performance problems the last time you successfully rode it?

Just to update and close this thread incase someone finds this in the future with the same problem, mine was the ECM, and the ignition module. (both had to be replaced)
