I agree with the other guys, save a buy a nicer helmet. Your head is only worth what you spend on it. I did crash test a vortex, still walking around and would buy one again.

I was really looking at the vortex and the rs1 but when I stumbled across this star for the price I couldn't pass it up. I was looking for someone a little bit better than my gm48s and found something way better. I'm going to have to get the nicer visor for it when I can afford it.

You wont be disappointed with the star. The materials inside the helmet are very nice. The little details like the magnet keeper at the end of the strap make it so much nicer than most helmets with a snap. The metal lever on the visor is nice for cracking it to get a small amount of air. The vents actually do something when open. Definitely save up for the auto darkening shield if you are ever out past dark.

The venting on the gmax was my main gripe and feeling like a bobble head most of the time.

I bought one of these last year. Wish I would have had the advice in this thread before I bought it. I'm very disappointed with it. The reviews I had seen said it was an excellent buy taking into account what you get for your money. Well, those that reviewed it must not have worn it! It's the noisiest helmet I've EVER owned! I wear ear plugs all the time and still the left ear seems too loud.
DSHUMAKER- let me know how that star works out. I'm sure it's twice the helmet I own. Definitely looks the part!

All of the Bell helmets have a lot of wind noise.

Will do I figure the star will be loud too but every helmet I've had has been in one way or another.

The funny thing is out of the three bikes the blast seems to be the worst as far as engine/exhaust noise. There is something about how the sound reflects off of the pavement it just rings my bell.

I just bought a Shoei RF-1200. I forget what they call the sub model, but it's one with green graphics to match my Ninja. It was a bit expensive, but sometimes you actually get what you pay for. Prior to that my favorite helmet has been a Scorpion Exo... I think it's an Exo-500. I also have a couple of Icons... One is an Airmada. Neither of the Icons is that comfortable - especially the Airmada which seems a touch too big but the next size down wouldn't fit on my head. I decided to splurge on the Shoei and OMG - what a difference! Even from my much loved Scorpion. I don't know the weight of the RF-1200, but it's really light. Visibility is amazing and it is noticeably more aerodynamic. Did I mention it's also visibly smaller and Snell approved too? I will never be able to go back to anything less now. I patronize most of the major online stores and I'm not sure if I should mention the particular company that I purchased from, but it's Revzilla. This helmet is so amazing that I bought another one in a solid color (anthracite) to match the carbon fiber bodywork on my Firebolt. Right now they have the solids on sale: about $430 for smalls and about $450 for the size I wear -medium. Yes, it's a lot of money, but wouldn't you spend more on a better bike? It's made my riding experience even more enjoyable. If there's any way you can swing one, I'd definitely recommend it.

I need to update my posting about the bell qualifier helmet I own.
I had posted that it was the noisiest helmet I ever owned and that I would not have purchased the helmet had I known about the noise issues.
I need to rescind this review. Due to the fact that I made an intereting discovery the other day.
I pulled all the liners and padding out of the helmet for cleaning and discovered that the foam around the left ear piece was broken. This is where I was experiencing the most
annoying wind noise. I had no idea! And I never even thought about pulling the liner and padding out of the helmet when I received it, in order to give it a good inspection.
So the wind noise I reported was not a design flaw. It was a manufacturer, distributer or shipping issue.
I now know just how thoroughly I need to inspect my next helmet.
My bad Bell.
I'll give you another shot on my next helmet purchase. Since I do like the weight, shape, fit and venting.
