Please help! Well on way to work check engine light came on and I thought I blew my fan fuse again so when I got to the red light I cut my bike off. Well when I went to restart it "click click click" congratulations your battery is dead! So I roll down the street and clutch start it so I can get somewhere my bike is safe. The clock stops working and I can feel the bike die between shifts, and finally the whole cluster stops working I roll into a parking lot and the bike is finished wont move a inch. I'm guessing that this is the stator again happened about two years ago and I replaced it. Im the only owner of bike and have over 30k on it. Its a 2007 Buell firebolt xb12r. What do you guys think. I dont have money for another stator right now baby due on aug 19. [mad]

Couple of things to check...

There is a great procedure to check the stator... Another thing to check is all of your groundings. I would also check the Voltage Regulator. How old is your battery?

Have you had any issues with your headlights buring out?
Check the back side of the VR, See if any thing is melted?

What he said.

BTW, There are couple of you tube video's out there... Also... Google search VR / Stator Testing on the Forums... If you do not have access to the Manuals...

DJ - have you checked the battery to see if it's completely dead? Can't you take it to an auto parts store and have them test to see if it's got dead cells and what not?

Going along with all the other VR comments, Check the electrical connector for the positive and negative wires to the VR.

Stock one uses a blade terminal that actually shorts out and melts the connector and causes charging issues. You can pick up replacement connectors from ASB here.

What pingu said. My bike has around 30k miles and my vr plug gave out once. All I did was cut the connectors off spliced and heat shrinked them instead

So I got my volt meter and there are five wires that come out of my voltage regulator, this goes to two plugs one with 3 wires and one with 2. I tested the voltage with bike on between all three wires and it stayed the same but went up when rev the motor it increased, so then I tested the other 2 wires the red and black, when I tested them on the regulator side the voltage did not go up when rev motor. My buddy said that means that I have a bad regulator and my stator is fine. Can I get some of you guys input. Thanks.

Thats not accurrate. You cant test like that, nor assume that voltage change indicates good, must increase a certain amount at certain RPMs. The regulator cant be tested unplugged, really all you can do is test battery voltage while running.

3-wires come from the stator to the regulator, must test between all the terminals in all the combinations. While running, with the meter on A/C volts. Voltage at 2000rpms 20-30 volts, 3-4k rpms 60-70volts 5000+ ive seen 80-90volts. Higher RPMs if significantly lower than that you have stator issues.

If that checks out, go tonyour battery on D/C volts, with a good charge on the battery 13.5+ volts is what you should read. If the voltage is in the 12s suspect VR is bad, if you what the voltage it should slowly drop as well.
