Bucking Buell

Midnight: Haven't been able to mes with the bike yet today. I will be starting with ground points for sure. All relays are brand new.

Jimi: The bike is great in neutral and your thoughts with the primary may be valid. I have had some excessive humming from the primary as of late. Just changed the primary and put redline oil in it..

Going to first start with grounds and make my way to the primary. I have thoroughly checked the ignition system, coil, wires, plugs, all are in great shape and new.

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor

You'll need ECMSpy and a cable to reset that.

But I have a hard time believing the TPS would cause the bucking.

Still thinking it's a ground. Verdict?

I'm no pro, but I have done a TPS reset to fix low speed jerkiness. I would say if you have jerkiness throughout the entire ride you should consider a TPS reset. I doubt it would just be jerkiness bucking at 2k-3k. If you ride it around the block in 1st and get to 3k it still falls flat(even in 1st)?

rusty: for what it's worth, i've had 3 firebolts in my shop now with bad grounds and precisely same symptoms as your bike. one was 2003 and other 2 were 2004, one of which is mine. symptom could best be described almost as if you were turning the kill switch on and off while riding. in all cases i found it was either the battery ground, ground at frame, or ground under airbox. i'd also check the power lead at the fuel pump.

mine is doing this exact same thing. started yesterday. it idles low, when it gets to 3k it breaks up real bad. above that it smooths out. it did this last year and turned out my geround wire to battery was loose. now it's all good!

Shoot guys, been out of town on business. Wont be able to work on it till Tuesday. I thank you all for your ideas and input. Will give it another go round before I throw in the towel and let a "pro" deal with it! :)

Will give the grounds another look and snug treatment. If it is a TPS issue< I will have to let someone else do the work as I dont have the cable and knowledge for that...

Just got home after a few days away. Rode the bike a few miles, no symptoms as before WTF???? Did the electrical reset and rest this isue, or should I take the bike to H-D like I planned?

How much did your ride?

make it through all the gears?
Have you done anything else to the bike since you had issues?

New gas, ground check? anything?

Rode about 25 miles before the whole thing started all over again. I have gone over all the grounds, twice plugs and wires, coil, new gas, basically everything everything I can troubleshoot with my limited skill, tools available, and the helpful suggestions from you all.
H-D has it now, so we'll see what the verdict is...

Still no word from H-D as of yet. parts guy (Buell owner) is betting on a ignition module? says they peeter out from heat and you don't know till its done? This shop has always been solid to me (except the head gasket service they did and I had leaky push rod seals in 80 mile later..) so hopefully they are on point with whatever they find.

Again, thanks for all the input/suggestions, you guys came up with. Thank god for knowledgeable riders like you all.

I am relieved for you that the parts guy is a Buell owner. Compared to all the horror stories we see on here, that is A+.

So.... After numerous TPS resets and none sticking, they they found that the idle speed control was twisted like a pigs tail. They replaced that, still acting the same way, bucking and jumping, etc... Then they decided to replace the TPS sensor itself... Bingo!!! We have a winner. The bike is running great and strong as ever, feels good to back on the "horse"

Thanks again y'all for your suggestions, idea's, and time. Ride safe everyone.

R.
