Went to the local HD dealer to pick up some hardware for the primary covers. The parts guy said that Buell's use metric and we ain't got those. I then pointed to a bike on display and showed him what hardware I wanted. He turned around and said he didn't have Buell parts.

I just don't understand where this attitude comes from. Is it in the employee handbook? The one that outlines how much flair (I mean tattoo's) they have to have?

I try to support local businesses, but they make it hard to.

I don't know where you guys live, but I have no problems with my harley dealer. They know me and my bike when I walk in, I rarely have to remind them of what bike I have. They always get the parts in overnight for free for me.

Same here, happy to help, but there is an underlining attitude[smirk]"Oh I never ordered out of this catalog before"

The dealer I go to normally is okay. They order parts for me without any trouble as long as I deal with the same parts guy each time. I figured I'd try the dealer next to the airport, sense I drive by it quite often. They won't be getting any of my money.

Unlike many people, I want to see Harley survive. I'm an engineer for a car company and worked in Detroit for many years. The last I want to see is the auto manufacturing industry go further down in the US, but Harley needs to real these dealers in if they plan on surviving. They are the face of the brand.

I wish we could see where other members are from. I go to Suburban HD in Thiensville, WI and haven't had a problem with the parts counter, they have a knowledgeable staff for old and new Buell parts.

I think some people need to remember not all Harley Dealers sold Buells. Out of the four in the Toledo area only one sold Buells and the give me great service everytime Im in there.

my dealer knows me fairly well, and if another bueller comes in while I am getting stuff they sometimes give me a blank "what part does this guy want?" look. when I get parts they ask if I mind pointing to the part in the book for them.
I don't mind it one bit, its even a little flattering i think.

I do all my own work! I'm not a Mechanic but When I bought the bike (new in 2000) someone mentioned that I should purchase a Service Manual, Best money I have spent! I really did not know much about turning wrenches when I started but I after I saw How much Money HD was charging for Service Fee's i figured I would give it a shot! Plus I also like the idea of working on my own Bike! The Service manual is a wonderful tool if you don't have one buy one!!! There were a few times I did have to go to Boards like this one for Mechanical Advice but in the end not only have I saved probably thousands of dollars I also have learned alot and have pride knowing that I am the one that who not only rides the beast but I am also the one to Maintain Her!!

If I can get over the fact that most the bolts on a Buell are SAE, you'd think a dealership could get used to the fact that a motorcycle has a couple metric bolts on it. I don't understand why so many people are opposed to the metric system/common sense. I feel like it's almost some kind of American mental disorder that people would rather count in fractions rather than in order from 1-10. [confused]

kid: "hey dad I just turned 12 years old!"
HD Mechanic: "********, you just turned 3/25ths of a century, stop counting all unamerican like!"

I am usually the first one to complain about poor customer service But Gateway HD & Buell in St louis Mo treated me like I owned the place. Even the Harley patrons I talked with were great. They have called me more than twice just to see how the bikes doing. I'm not going anywhere else yet.

I went to the same local Harley dealer that I bought my bike from I needed the same parts as the OP. I was treated well new hardware cost $.45 piece I left pretty happy.
