Connecticut for now....
I have been doing hobbie powdercoating for 10 yrs or so and have started to outgrow my EW gun and garage house oven.... Needed to powdercoat a few larger items on my bike so i decided it was time for an upgrade. Im a big DIY person and like to, well... do as much as i can myself, lol.

Just finished building my new oven from scratch. Its 5ft x 3ft sq and heats up to 400 degrees in about 10 mins! Thing works fantastic! Just finished powdercoating my swing arm the other night (pics to come)... and in the process of doing my wheels. Did my front forks and triple already in my old oven.

here is my new oven- it was a fun project and should last me years to come.

Get a fluidizing hopper for that hs02 and your results will be amazing. Teds control box on that oven?

Already have a fluidizing hopper with pump.... just havnt got a chance to hook it up yet. Hopefully this week.

Yup, its a ted control box. I was going to build my own, but do to time and gather parts it was just easier to call the man and have one built.

You certainly don't muck about do you Pur Pony.

I can't wait to see your work.

:Edit: I forgot to ask if you have media blasting gear there as well or if you shop it out? Bead blasting doubled the price of my powdercoat job for the mustang.

I wished I had been able to handle that bit myself.

yes, i have a small and medium sized blast cabinet with glass bead and aluminum oxide. Something else i bought and need to buy more of is powdercoating stripper. I always used aircraft stripper which works pretty decent on powdercoat... but man i could not get the factory buell powdercoat off the wheels... the stuff was tough. I bought B17 powdercoating stripper... that stuff is nasty but works unbeleivable! Its a liquid that you soak the parts in. Dropped a wheel in... in 10 mins it was spotless! :D

Man that IS some tough ****. To eat really good powdercoating with a chemical is pretty impressive.

Is it doable to just strip a wheel and do a semi gloss/satin clear?

Something to protect the wheel but something that will not be visible.

so you are asking, just clearing the raw aluminum wheel?

Yes, you can do that... problem is, the raw aluminum wheel is pretty ugly... lol. The casting is pretty rough. If you spend some time and sand it down, then bead blast it, then clear, that should look pretty good.

Yes, the stripper is nasty stuff. You do not want to get it on your skin. I got one little drop and the next day had a dime sized burn there. I always where a rubber apron, full face shield, rubber gloves, and arm coverings. You drop a powdercoated part in and it almost just starts bubbling.

Hammer- ya, its no joke! where are you located? Im in CT but my dad has a place about 5 mins from benco where b17 comes from.... Whenn i need small amounts he picks it up for me...

here is my X1 swingarm i coated last week. 60% black to match my factory frame
