Hey everyone, I am about to buy a bike for the first time. I know how to ride already and have ridden for close to 6 months now on my friends XB12R. But I am debating between a GSXR-600, R6, or a '08 XB12R. I like the Buell the best out of all of them in terms of feeling comfortable on it, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask everyone on here their opinions on the XB12R, R6 and GSXR 600.

I am looking for a bike that is fun to ride, comfortable (which the Buell is the most comfortable for me so far) and not way over the top (Like a Hyabusa). I am curious on dependability, maintenance and performance.

No offense whatsoever, my friend, but do you realize you're asking a bunch of people on a Buell forum what they think of Buells in relation to the competition? I think you know what the answer will be. But as for your questions, the GSXR and the R6 will have much, much more UNUSEABLE power. The factory japanese bikes , for the most part, will top over 150, where the Buells go in the 120's...but are you planning on doing 150? The Buells are much more fun to ride...highly responsive, and extremely sensitive. As far a maintenance and dependability goes, if you take care of it and do what the factory recommends you do, you'll be fine. But they rattle, hum, hiss, ping, ding, and fall apart...it IS a Harley :D. If you keep the bike up, it will last beyond the time at which you're ready to get a new one. If you must consider other options, might I suggest looking at the naked Suzuki SV 650 or 1000, they're great bikes cosmetically and functionally, in my opinion. Just get the Buell...you'll be glad you did. :)

How tall are you? I chose a Buell Lightning Scg model because I'm 5'7" and it just felt more comfortable. I'm not a big Yamaha fan and if Buells didn't exist I would probably be riding a GSXR. It would be nice to have enough extra cash to have both. I would probably prefer my Buell for city riding, showing off, etc. because it's unique and always turns heads. If I was doing more highway riding and long distance trips I would probably go for the GSXR.

Scobbie001: I know it was a stupid question for this site but i am just trying to get all of the info before I buy one. You're right about the unuseable power, my friend who has the 08 XB12R also has a 07 GSXR 600. I have ridden both and I do not plan on getting up to 150 at all, to me that's just asking for trouble. I like the Buell for how it responds (no chain!) and the overall feel of it. I am almost 100% going to get a Buell, I am just double checking everything before I get it.

Buellxb: I am just above 6'1", I feel comfortable enough on the 12R and am able to put both my feet on the ground comfortably at a stop. I will mostly be doing city riding but I will be driving it to class alot which will be about 30 miles away. I am still leaning towards the buell.

I want to put the Jardine exhaust on it, a K&N filter, and some HIDs. ECM??? Maybe, but I don't plan on racing it, just having a fun ride! [cool]

Thanks for the replies, if anyone else has an opinion on anythig please let me know. I am going home (Dallas) from school May 6th and am planning on buying shortly after that!!! Can't wait!

We look forward to having you as part of the Buell community. That is, if you make the right choice. ;)[up]

Already have test rode, and LOVED IT!!! I just need the money and to get through semester finals! haha, a bike and trying to study for finals....hmmmmmmmm

I know you were just kidding....I just wanted to bust your chops a bit. I honestly have a lot of respect for the Japanese bikes...they're popular for a reason. But the Buell is practical, unique, and awfully good looking. [cool]

True That! Japanese bikes are high RPM and high speeds...Which how often on thoes bikes will someone get into 6th gear and really use it in the city....
