Im looking to get a used xb12ss, I have a few important questions first.

I heard that older buells had problems with the fuel mapping. I heard somewhere that the 08 has improved fuell injection... was this the model that fixed those issues with fuel mapping? Also, if I were to get lets say an 06 or 07 xb12ss, could I have it "mapped" so it runs the way it should?

The 08 sounded like an important year for the xb12ss, but as you can see I have little knowledge of this. The 09 has the longer suspension which sounds great... Only problem is it seams to me that when it comes to used xb12's, every year you go back the average price drops $1,000. 09's are around 9,000 and 08 are around 8,000... so would the extra grand or two be worth it between the 06,07,08, and 09?

Thank you in advance for your help. Can't wait to get one of these things.

Not a lot of EASY options for tuning '08+ bikes. You can go the DIY route, and but it can get complicated.

I lean towards the '07-under bikes myself (besides druelling over the blacked-out newer ones). I've got an '06 but I'm with Dave in another thread, '07 may have been the best year of XB's.

But Buells can be hard to find, let alone a specific year. Good luck with the Hunt! [up]

i live on long island.

o... whatever has the best I want. in other words, as little maintenance or tunning required. u know? if thats 08+ and only 08+ then i want that

'06 was a great year, and if the mileage is right, and if you can tell from the PO that the bike wasn't abused and was broken in right, you can save a lot and put it toward mods, gear, maybe new tires in the near future, etc. The fuel mapping is not a problem per se, but it can always be tweaked to improve it on '07 and older. Starting with the '08's, the great tool that is the ECMSpy program won't allow you to access the ECM data and work on fuel and timing maps/charts.

Where are you on LI? I am often out at the extreme eastern tip, in Montauk, and will be moving back there sometime soon. My '06 Ss makes me smile - but there are always other bikes that you will drool over, so get yourself one and enjoy!
