Have some buddies that want to go on a road trip to montgomry for superbike fest in March. They are riding 1000's and cruise at about that speed. Just wandering if its safe to run 5k rpms for long periods of time.

hell yeah dude; other than really ampin up ur battery and doggin ur stator and breakin in ur piston skirts and blastin ur SYN 3 u'll be ok. :D

It isnt the speed rather the High RPMs, anything over 4,500rpms for long periods can cause damage to the internals, and obviously the higher the rpms or the long the worst the damage will get.

You could run 95mph in 5th gear and cause the same damage if you were running 55mph in 2nd gear. Just watch your RPMs and stay within these means and you dont need to worry about anything.

so i posted a topic with this same question practically and got no help.

i love my buell, but i gota be honest, it does suck that i cant ride with my friends that have r1s and gsxr1000s cause they go fast. that sucks. they cruise around 100 and sometimes open it up. i guess ill get new friends with mopeds. [sad]

Or find some mature friends. There is absolutely no reason in the world to go that fast anywhere.

1. Illegal
2. Unsafe for you
3. Unsafe for others

If you want to go fast for fasts sake, play an effing video game where you wont hurt anyone. Not like you pay attention to the beautiful surroundings at that speed anyways...

ditto what Macbuell said....

... or take it to a track.. At least there when (note I didn't say IF) you or one of your friends screws up, there is already an ambulance waiting for you..

Absolutely agree, when you're talking about public roads.
[up]
To (supposedly) quote Darrell Waltrip: Anybody can go fast in a straight line.

hey no dogging on drag racing now.

what about the grand prix driver who said "anybody can go fast in a circle."

i might have made that up, but im sure someone has said it before

Too bad you can only get 100-120 miles per tank.. Up here in Minnesota once you get about 30 min. out of the city you can easily go 100+ in rural areas the only risk 1 should watch out for is deer not traffic.

P.S. I do it all the time, my bike has over 20k on it with out any probs. Just put on a ton of miles going back and forth to sturgis... Hit 125+ more then once. SO YEA!!! f@#% the haters RIDE HARD!!!

my question to running at 110mph or more few hours, is how can you stand the riding positions and your hands' possible soreness or cramp or worse numbness. also how could enjoy a ride at 110mph for a few hours, you can only pay attention to so much at a time and 90% or more of that is attention is focused on the road and Obstacles in front of you at those higher speeds.
you might want to know that 110 miles per hour = 161.333333448719 feet per second that about equal to width of american nfl football field plus 1 foot, or 19 feet short from being half the length of football field.can you pay attenion to 161 feet speeding by you and see anything around you to keep from hitting rocks, dead animals, cars, or other debri on the road, or animals crossing the road for that few hours or more , thats very hard to do even for top racer PROS.

you do know that they can track you with airplanes and helicopters , and you can't out run the radio. they can arrest you for reckless driving and endangerment to others, and seize your vehicle.

i have nothing against fast driving but 110 few hours is extreme and dangerous to you and others, FAST IS FUN BUT NOT ALL THE TIME constanly.
also I' like to say i used to drive for an hour and half(90miles one way)to work 5days a week, driving at speeds
on the turnpike and interstate highway at 70 to 75+. and that was not very comfortable riding I had to constantly change my riding positions and even let off the throttle to relax my hand and keep my hand on the handlebars a bit for safety at thosae speeds
and sometimes i would have pull
over just take a break or stretch . think of wind turbulence you would get from passing a big diesel and trailer at 110 or a bad cross wind all of sudden.a car probably wont see you coming up at 110 and might pull over in your lane before having chance to react and your reaction time is gets even smaller the faster you go.
at a very good reaction time of 0.8 of a second that means you'll go about 128 ft(distance to react) before touch the brakes to react and about 119.5 ft of braking distance means you will travel about 247.7 ft before you come to a complete stop.
but most average people have a brain think time (assess the danger and figure what to do)and reaction time (time it takes to move foot & hand to the brakes) of combined 1.5 seconds that means increased stopping distance at 110mph to about 360 ft to stop completly.
hey the idiots who are constantly speeding along with popping wheelies, and other stunts on the road is why Crotch Rockets, superbikes, and sportbikes have such a bad reputation with POLICE and people in general.
I really hate it when people think I am speeder or dangerous idiot just because i ride and drive sportbike and sports car just because of what they have seen from others that ride & drive sportbikes & sportscars.

TooFst - I do understand your point...... Iowa, Kansas, Wyoming, ETC..... there is just lots of open space and NO ONE COMING. Deer really are your only obstacles. HOWEVER.......... :

HOWEVER (screamineagle)..... while I appreciate the power in the sports bikes..... completely agree with what has been said. Take it to the track if you want to go that fast for extended times.

It's dangerous. YOU WILL WRECK.... and (I'm sure you have) someone who cares about you..... (IF YOU SURVIVE- they will cuss you out immensely) because speed is something you CAN control. {There are so many things on the roads that we can't control..... why would you risk one more?}

BUT if you can't resist it...... the only other tip I can say is .... make sure you have really good insurance (health and life). You WILL (no if) need it.

Just because you have the power in the bike doesn't mean you have to be STUPID. Take it to the track..... prove your manliness there. ;)

should not be a problem running those speeds and holding it there for a while...just stay in back of the pack its the safest place..plus you really dont have a choice...after all the buell is a sport bike ...not sure if buell head light stays on if not keep your head light on....helps the electrical system at high speeds

I wanted to tag along but didnt realy want to ride that fast for that long. Sounds like a bad idea. Just wanted to know if the bike could handle it.

wow. ok. thank you everybody for your input. look i love goin through the backroads and enjoying the view, but unfortunately all my friends love flying down the intersate at 100+ ...both can be fun but they cant take the twisties like i can and cant really find enjoyment out of it. this was not a topic about whether you think going fast is smart, it was whether buells could take it.

to each their own

i love riding in general so chill out and quit bashing me for going fast. i dont live near a track and dont have the time or money to go.

also, a buddy of mine did evade police in a chase that included a helicopter by simply riding toward the airport :)

but thanks for your opinions and thank you all for caring about my safety, sincerely, im glad to see you all lookin out for me really but dont hate on me

hey I would like to add to my reply .. to your real Question;
whether buells could take it?
yes I think BUELLS can take it .., but as i think someone already said it , you might get 1 hour to one and a half hours before your buddies bikes(import crotch rockets) run out of gas , and you might have some still in your tank , a little.
at constant 110mph.

I didnt think about airport airspace ,smart move.did he hide or something too..still risky. must of just watched gone in 60 seconds or something...,funny funny.i like that movie great cars.both versions new and original.should of had motorcycles in it.

toofst: just asking; how do you handle the riding position(s) or your hand for long periods at higher speeds, and/or long distances? cruise control?
